When Virginia Tech authorities arrived Wednesday night at a cafe inside the Graduate Life Center, they found a decapitated female victim who had arrived on campus just two weeks ago and a young man they have now charged with killing her.

Its not easy to decapitate a human being...this guy had to work at it for a time.
The amount of effort in any homicide is sometimes the best indicator of the level of personal involvement. Not in all circumstances, but in most.

Apparently, there were no men present when the murder took place. There might have been some males, but no men.
Unless later reports contradict, it seems nobody tried to stop him.

I have to admit, that thought crossed my mind as well.
But it is probably unreasonable of us to expect people who make their LIVING writing the English language to use proper sentence structure.

Given the hundreds upon hundreds of hours they spent training with swords, I doubt it.

Acording to the article, police arrived within two minutes of someone calling 911. The girl was most likely dead by the time the witnesses even processed what was going on and got themselves together enough to call 911.
Other than people trained to deal with violent situations (cops, military) the vast majority of people freeze up in a situation like this. Having just witnessed a bloody murder, few people are going to have the capacity to confront a deranged, blood-soaked lunatic.

My first thought was who kills a person by decapitation, but then I did a brief search about Chinese history and found it was also done in China.
The Male student has a name that has a history, but it might be like Smith & Jones in the U.S.
From all indications, the victim and her killer knew each other. Goriness aside, that's the standard situation for most murders- people tend to be killed by someone they know. This had nothing to do with Virginia Tech.
Just not in this case.

Most likely. For example, we know that Muslims are into decapitation.
Many foreigners who come to Virginia Tech are baffled by our laws. In their country, penalties can be muted by political influence. Sometimes crimes are simply forgotten. You can miss a court date and use “I forgot” as a valid defense. They find our penalties way too strict. We’ve had people commit a crime, leave the country and then come back, thinking that would somehow “reboot” the justice system.
This guy may have thought that he would just be sent home if he did this. I doubt he considered that he could spend the rest of his life in a US prison.
