“the one” will have to find ways to silence his detractors. He’s a control freak.

There is no doubt in my mind they would bring it back, its in liberals nature, they want to silence everything that isn’t a liberals point of view

He and the Democrat Congress may go for the Fairness Doctrine but more likely to be successful and likely to be tried is a "community content" thing reqưiring radio stations to have their programming subject to veto by a group of "local citizens" that will be almost always leftist activists or at least mushy folks who don't like to hear anything negative about things or people that run things. Conservatives have jobs and don't normally have time for such things.

I would think pretty soon since zer0 commented today that you can’t let Rush stall the $825 billion bailout bill.

Here’s where we can only hope the U.S. Supreme Court has the cojones to uphold the first amendment — and the broadcasters forced to drop Rush have the cojones to sue.

I thought you might be interested in this. I don’t think there is a fairness doctrine ping list on the FR master ping list. There should be one since there is a real chance that any fairness doctrine policy might touch the internet and Free Republic. If there isn’t one out there already and one of the old war horses on FR doesn’t want to do it, freepmail me and I’ll start one. We need one now more than ever.

Obama has said that he would have been five points ahead if Fox News did not exist. Of course he is going to want to revive the “fairness” doctrine.

He could've given those non-answers at the hearing! Waiting didn't do anything to clarify his response.
What a perfect little bureaucrat. He'll get the position since he's so good at answering something with nothing.

Whatever happened to the old liberal saying “if you don’t like something, change the channel?”

Obama invoked Rush’s name today when speaking about ‘those seeking to delay the stimulus bill.’ I cannot recall President Bush publicly criticizing a commentator or journalist by name.

Obama doesn’t have the balls to say it to his face. For that matter, Obama doesn’t have the balls to speak with Rush or Hannity face to face.

He will slip up sooner rather than later and the entire nation will see him for what he is—a Chicago thug.

Zero’s attack on Rush Limbaugh tonight is a hint that he and the Democrats are coming after Rush and are going to try and shut him down.

Not only will they push for the fairness doctrine but I believe they will use the excuse of congressional powers through the interstate commerce clause to extend it to cable television as well as to the Internet. They may even try to model legislation to hate speech laws prevalent in other countries.

There is a monopoly on news. News is a genre of nonfiction which has always been in demand, but the available supply has metastasized in the past 1 1/2 centuries. We have many newspapers, several TV networks, and radio stations to provide us with news. And yet, news is a monopoly.

It is a monopoly because membership in the Associated Press is essential to being a journalism outlet - and membership in the AP compromises the independence of any journalism outlet. If you are in the AP you need to make money from the reports the AP provides to you as substantial expense. And that requires that you promote the "objectivity" of the Associated Press and all its other members. That implies that all journalists are in cahoots - and that the news pages of all newspapers have the same coloration.

The Right to Know

The “Fairness Doctrine” is The Censorship Doctrine

Media Research Center's Free Speech Alliance is a fast-growing coalition of organizations and individuals, who, like you, cherish free speech and who have proactively joined to ensure the misnamed “Fairness Doctrine” never returns to silence the conservative voice in America.

First enacted by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) in 1949, the Fairness Doctrine required radio stations give equal time to all sides on political issues. However, the result wasn’t equal time, it was zero time – as stations simply avoided topics that would fall under FCC equal time rules.

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan rescinded the Fairness Doctrine and since then, talk radio has flourished. Conservatives dominate it, and liberals can’t stand it. By re-instating the Fairness Doctrine, liberals would effectively silence the conservative leaders of the day including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and others, and would essentially take control of all forms of media.

In recent months, the groundswell for reinstatement is intensifying. In fact, a growing number of liberal leaders in Washington, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, have openly stated their intent to do so.

As Americans, we cannot sit idly by while this gag order on conservative speech is resuscitated. The time to act is now—so when the time comes, we are mobilized and prepared to defend our Free Speech Rights.

Join the hundreds of thousands of citizens taking action now through MRC’s Free Speech Alliance, and our national petition opposing the re-instatement of the Fairness Doctrine. Media Research Center’s Free Speech Alliance goal is to mobilize 500,000 citizens to forever end the threat of the Fairness Doctrine and other attacks on Free Speech. Click on this link.

Ping me if you want to join or leave this fairness doctrine ping list. Advocators and detractors are welcome.
