More Immigration Will Test U.S. Economy, Unity
Harvard Law Record ^ | Jan. 22, '09

Posted on 01/24/2009 4:10:55 AM PST by T.L.Sink

Barack Obama nominated Janet Napolitano to head Homeland Security - despite the fact that she has actively opposed measures to secure our borders, and has consistently advocated both amnesty for illegal immigrants and guest worker visas. This clearly signals Obama's desire to maintain high [illegal] immigration levels, a position which will hurt all Americans economically, and further divide this nation. According to Census data, Hispanics have surpassed blacks in numbers and growth rates. Since tensions exist even among people of the same ethnic group, racial violence may escalate, especially in the context of a recession in which over 10 million Americans of diverse racial backgrounds are out of work. Revs. Jeremiah Wright, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and many other black leaders feel blacks have been mistreated by whites. They believe that increased immigration will help black Americans rise. Yet the "Rainbow Coalition" will not work: liberal news networks have reported tremendous tensions between blacks and Latinos because many blacks see increasing economic and political losses to Latinos as the latter's numbers grow. Euro-Americans have been told to "go back to Europe." According to the L.A. Times, pro-immigrant Norman Bernstein, principal of an elementary school in California was beaten "unconscious" by Latino men who told him: "We don't want you here any more, white principal." Hispanic parents in his school had circulated petitions demanding that he be replaced by a Spanish speaker. If Obama successfully pushes for amnesty for at least 12 million illegal migrants and more "guest worker" visas - 120 million more people will become relatives of legalized people and "guest workers." They will become potential voters, use energy, health care, and many other costly social services. The U.S. is already bankrupt, and many states are desperately demanding federal aid.

In regard to Janet Napolitano, Tom Tancredo recently pointed out the following facts: *Napolitano opposed building a fence on our border with Mexico. *She vetoed a bill that would have made illegal immigration a violation of Arizona's trespassing law. *She vetoed a bill that would have cut in-state tuition benefits for illegal aliens. *She vetoed a bill that would have made English the official language of Arizona. *She vetoed a bill that would have prohibited the Mexican "Matricula Consular" card from being used as a valid form of identification in Arizona. Now she and Obama will proceed together to encourage the massive illegal invasion of America. Does anyone think Michelle Malkin was exaggerating when she referred to Napolitano's new nest as the "Department of Homeland Insecurity?"

It seems to me that Obama has gone out of his way to pick the least qualified candidates for cabinet positions.

Appointing Janet Napolitano was a deliberate thumb in the eye to the white citizens of Arizona -- the "kind of people" who vote for John McCain and John Kyl, f'rinstance.

Bet Napolitano tries to go after Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has been picking up illegals and detaining them, with some kind of federal beef, and get him either thrown in prison or out of office, or both.

The famous "gunfight at the O.K. Corral" was actually a political fight. The Clanton "gang" were the local Democrats (one might take a tip from the name of the corral -- "O.K." was an old Democrat watchword and political tag), and the Earp family were the Republican enforcers whose job was to make the Grant Administration's, and Congress's, writ run in Tombstone to the exclusion of the Clantons. (Who were also adept at rustling beeves -- but that's another part of the story.) Moral of the story: like the range wars around Sedona and the fight in the O.K. Corral, Arizona politics can get plumb rough.

The Harvard Law Record!? Who would have thunk it? This is a very refreshing and insightful article. The problem is that amnesty in my mind is a foregone conclusion because Zero will produce the government dependence that will ensure each and every one of their votes in the next election.

What I find most frightening about the current state of our country is how few people actually pay income taxes. I realize their is plenty of blame to go around for this. George W.’s last round of tax breaks pushed more people into this category and it is higher than it ever was at this point. If this number gets to be over 50%, which I believe Zero is hell bent on doing, what you are going to have is an electorate, half of who pay no income tax, being told that if you vote for the other party they will force you to pay tax. This is nothing more than economic blackmail and I fear it will have long term negative implications for our country.

He has surrounded himself, almost without exception (such as Robert Gates) with fellow-travellers who see the destruction of America as a good thing, as they need to see it destroyed in order to resurrect America in their marxist image. They must know they are creating a social and economic tinder box that will explode in violence (for one thing, that will give them the excuse to order the disarmament of the American people, which is one of their most desired goals). I despise them.

The Harvard Law RECORD is the student newspaper of the Harvard Law School, and this was an op-ed column. It’s not the Harvard Law REVIEW, the prestigious legal publication BHO was Pres of. Still, an interesting article.

....being told that if you vote for the other party they will force you to pay tax.

And the same political agenda drives health care: "The evil Republican people want to take away your baby's doctor -- they want your [insert color here] baby to DIE because they're all heartless, baby-eating white racists!"

In 1964, 'Rat political organizers and campaigners did the same thing with Social Security and welfare, telling Louisiana voters that Barry Goldwater was going to take X and Y away from them if elected.

The Louisiana electorate voted for Barry anyway out of principle. And I distinctly remember, two years later, my college history prof, who had been one of the young smartasses retailing that giant lie for LBJ's campaign, sitting on his desk in the classroom laughing at the rubes and hicks who'd been so stupid they voted against their own self-interest, and voted for Barry Goldwater! What idiots! Ha, ha!

Those old Cajuns had more character on the worst day of their lives than that clown, when he finally stops polluting our oxygen, will ever have wanted to have.

More than anything else, that long-ago moment crystallized for me how rotten is the heart of the Democrat Party. I've despised them utterly ever since, no matter how badly I've been disappointed and disillusioned by the RiNO Party.

I think you made an excellent point. When so many are not paying any federal income tax it means that they only have a vested interest in how the wealth of those who do pay taxes is redistributed. This is what’s so idiotic about Obama’s “tax cut.” The great majority are not paying any taxes now and will not be getting a refund but a welfare check.

“No white people need apply-Robert Reich!”

A local watering hole I sometimes frequent has a lot of construction workers as regulars. Most of them were Obama supporters (I am in Northern Illinois, and Illinois is a BIG union state; myself, I am non-union). Reich’s little comment the other day was the topic of conversation over beers. They took issue with me when I asked them why they were so upset since they must have known this would happen with Obama and his ilk.

We need to make regular Americans realize that illegal aliens are hurting their job prospects and pay.

Right. What a crew! Richardson was caught in a scandal and withdrew in disgrace, Geithner is a tax cheat, Holder pardoned Marc Rich and the FALN terrorists, and Hillary has a history of scandals going back to her Arkansas days. And imagine! We have yet to see what happens as the next four years unfold! But, come to think of it, we mustn’t forget Obama’s own scandalous past associations and dubious history - I think they all are kindrid spirits!

Did they find out about this thru their union? This was not widely disseminated in the MSM.

I take it that the “Harvard Law Record” has no connection with the “Harvard Law Review.”

Exactly right. It’s been proven that illegals suppress the wages of legal workers. It’s also been shown that their cost to our society is far greater than their contribution. We’re paying ever-increasing taxes for bankrupt public school districts, insolvent hospitals, prison incarceration, the horrendous human and fiscal costs of the drug cartel, and a multitude of other things. It’s a NET LOSS.

Right - they’re not the same but the Record is published by Harvard Law students and it has a conservative orientation. The Law Review is much better known because it has a national off-campus recognition and readership as a specialized professional journal.

Don't expect the Democrats to do anything to stop illegal immigration, Hispanic voters are their key to holding near-total power for the foreseeable future. Hispanics voted for Obama 2-1 last November and gave him the edge in many key states that went to Bush in 04 and had been considered either McCain states or toss-ups. In fact, if not for the states that flipped from GOP in 04 to Democrat in 08 due to the high Hispanic turnout and 2-1 Democrat vote by Hispanics in those states Obama would not be president today.

And don't think the Democrats aren't planning to make maximum use of the Hispanic vote in future elections. See THIS article in The Nation for how the left plans to use illegal Hispanic immigration and a fast road to citizenship, combined with their usual 92-95% of the black vote, to keep their monopoly on power virtually forever. Bush and the other Pubs who fought and defeated every effort to curb illegal immigration just insured GOP defeat in all future national elections.
