Limbaugh Responds to Obama
National Review ^ | 1/24/09 | Byron York

Posted on 01/24/2009 1:06:04 PM PST by JRochelle

According to an account in the New York Post, President Barack Obama yesterday told Republican leaders, "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." With George W. Bush now off the stage, it may be that Obama and some of his fellow Democrats view Limbaugh, and not John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, or any other elected official, as the true leader of the Republican opposition. This morning I asked Rush for his thoughts on all this, and here is his response:

There are two things going on here. One prong of the Great Unifier's plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan. He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me. And who knows? Are ideological and philosophical ties enough to keep the GOP loyal to their voters? Meanwhile, the effort to foist all blame for this mess on the private sector continues unabated when most of the blame for this current debacle can be laid at the feet of the Congress and a couple of former presidents. And there is a strategic reason for this.

Secondly, here is a combo quote from the meeting:

"If we don't get this done we (the Democrats) could lose seats and I could lose re-election. But we can't let people like Rush Limbaugh stall this. That's how things don't get done in this town."

To make the argument about me instead of his plan makes sense from his perspective. Obama's plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR's New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy. Put simply, I believe his stimulus is aimed at re-establishing "eternal" power for the Democrat Party rather than stimulating the economy because anyone with a brain knows this is NOT how you stimulate the economy. If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of this TRILLION dollar debacle.

Obama was angry that Merrill Lynch used $1.2 million of TARP money to remodel an executive suite. Excuse me, but didn't Merrill have to hire a decorator and contractor? Didn't they have to buy the new furnishings? What's the difference in that and Merrill loaning that money to a decorator, contractor and goods supplier to remodel Warren Buffet's office? Either way, stimulus in the private sector occurs. Are we really at the point where the bad PR of Merrill getting a redecorated office in the process is reason to smear them? How much money will the Obamas spend redecorating the White House residence? Whose money will be spent? I have no problem with the Obamas redoing the place. It is tradition. 600 private jets flown by rich Democrats flew into the Inauguration. That's fine but the auto execs using theirs is a crime? In both instances, the people on those jets arrived in Washington wanting something from Washington, not just good will.

If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of the trillion dollar debacle.

One more thing, Byron. Your publication and website have documented Obama's ties to the teachings of Saul Alinksy while he was community organizing in Chicago. Here is Rule 13 of Alinksy's Rules for Radicals:

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

Geeze, he hasn't even accomplished anything and he's already running for re-election. What an a**.

The "I won" comment came after Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., said Republicans believed cutting income taxed would do more to stimulate economic growth than providing a $500 per person payroll tax refund for individuals earning less than $200,000. The president said, according to those present, that this was an important philosophical divide between Republican and Democrats and that it had already been settled -- and would remain settled -- because he won the election.

What a childish, commie brat our new President is!! What an arrogant jerk! I CANNOT STAND THAT GUY! The next for years is going to be unbearable.

You are right, Obama had his own channel plus all the favorable press that anyone could ever hope for. With all of that, none of us really know who this man is. None of his weaknesses, associations, corruptions have ever received a full study, as a matter of fact his faults have been covered up by most of the media.

He is like a blind date, you don't know what you have until you get to the dance. Who is this man that is now one of the most powerful in the world? We are going to find out very soon, the question is when he proves he is functioning well below his pay grade will anyone in the media be able to admit they made a terrible mistake. I doubt it, a cast of fools in love with a fool and if they don't see evil then there is no evil.

God help us.

Four days in and he’s worried about the 2012 election? That’s the last thing he should be worried about now.

He mentioned that months ago. That's why he already has a team raising money and organizing for the 2012. He has no intention of leaving in 4 years no matter what happens. Psssst.... he has no intention of EEEEVVVVEEEEERRRRRR leaving

He is such a manly man. Look how he took on that mean old Hannity this summer.

I laughed so hard each time he mentioned Hannity. Seriously, if I was a lib trying to marginalize the GOP, Hannity would not be my weapon of choice. BO is nothing but a kitty (the word I am thinking will get me banned, LOL)
He is NoBalls Obama.

Rush should take calls, let us ask about the birth certificate issue. He doesn’t have to go down that road if he chooses not to, just let us talk and he can listen

No, it’s probably the first thing to him. Maybe I’m off-base or so old (near 70) that I see things a different way. But I think he will still be in campaign mode, the only one he knows, for the next four years.
You might be 70 but your age shows your wisdom - read and realize this is EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING BEFORE OUR VERY EYES! http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2009/01/obamas-new-organizing-for-america.html

We are indeed in a life and death struggle for our country!

What water? The water Nazi’s say we have no water in GA.

With all of the rain we have had lately (Forsyth County) I told my husband to pay attention to the news. They will manage to get ‘drought’ into the weather segment somewhere.

I was right.

No, but by doing this Obama may be deciding who he wants to designate as spokesman for the opposition.

Best quote that Rush had regarding the financial meltdown was paraphrasing loosely “If central planning and nationalization of private businesses was the solution, than the USSR would have kicked our ass.”

I have a BS (actually a BA but it should be called a BS) in Economics and Rush never went to college and missed out on doing keg stands....how the man can possible make a decent living without a college degree is a miracle. :-)

But he gets it. Big time. God bless him.

My idol Milton Friedman was great at making complex financial crud simple so that everyone could get it.

American people are not stupid. They have common sense.

Let me ask you this:

If a catastrophe to America’s economic system was caused by massive borrowing, low interest rates, greed from those seeking power, egalitarian central planning, living beyond our means and obscene and gratuitous amounts of debt by the PRIVATE SECTOR....

Why would the “solution” be:

Massive borrowing, low interest rates, greed from those seeking power, egalitarian central planning, living beyond our means and obscene and gratuitous amounts of debt by the PUBLIC SECTOR....????

Of course, if some Gubmint or individuals in the world are stupid enough to loan us 2 Trillion by buying our debt for free to pay for this, than I can’t blame our Gubmint. Take the money. What do you have to lose?

I can’t believe anybody would be that stupid.

Great post.

Obama saying that the Republicans should not listen to Rush Limbaugh he is saying that Republicans should not listen to their core Conservative constituencies.........Conservatives really need a HERO ...

It was no mistake that whatever Republican(s) leaked this info about the meeting made sure they mentioned the reference to Rush. Now, it's getting national attention. That's a smart move. However, the more damning part of Obama's statement was that the stimulus bill needed to pass to make sure all the politicians were reelected.

The liberals have made Rush a focal point of derision many times in the past, and are attempting to do so once again. I'm sure many FReepers have been challenged by more liberal leaning friends/family/coworkers on Rush's statements about wanting Obama to fail. I know I have. If they can seperate us from one of the last leaders of conservative ideology (even though he's a radio host and not a congressional leader), then we will be easier to defeat. You know the old "United we stand, divided we fall" theme.

It's important to keep standing strong, call our congressional conservatives or even blue dog democrats to hold out on this whacky stimulus bill. We need a better alternative than spending ourselves into becoming France.

Obama is counting on getting this passed by mid-February. Mitch McConnell (according to reports) has already signalled he doesn't see a problem getting something passed by then. Conservatives would be handing over their defeat if O's team accomplishes this.

At least FDR had a war and recognized the enemy as the enemy. Obama is hoisting the white flag to terrorism while posing Limbaugh and his republicans as the enemy.

In just 3 days, the War on Terror became the War on Free Speech.
ZeroBama is more frightened of Rush Limbaugh than Al Qaeda...
