DC Dems laugh at States' Rights (Pure Vanity, review of visit to Capitol, March for Life)
Conversation with Security, Illinois staffer at House Gallery 1-23-09, personal observation | January 25, 2009 | hocndoc

Posted on 01/25/2009 9:22:09 AM PST by hocndoc

My husband, two friends and I went to DC for the National March for Life, arriving the day after the Inauguration and staying until Saturday. On Friday we toured the Capitol, the Capitol Visitors' Center ("CVC") and the House Gallery.

We were treated to repeated metal detectors at the CVC and at the Rayburn House offices when we visited our Congressman's office. However, there were several additional levels of security when we were being escorted to the Gallery. My purse was searched we went through a couple of more metal detectors, and all of our phones, cameras, and other "electronics" were held by Capitol staff as we went up to the Gallery. In fact, my husband had to check his car key when it was determined to be "electronic."

We watched as a ("typical"?) white haired lady was required to stand in front of her wheel chair to be "wanded" and patted down.

At the Gallery, there was a man and woman from Illinois sitting in front of us. Another man with an Illinois lapel pin stood on the other side of the rail, along with a young woman in a Capitol Security uniform, conversing and answering the first couple's questions. All four occasionally glanced back at us, with our GOP-little-feet pins and me with my "I'm pro-life and I vote" button.

The questions included: "How often will President Obama visit the House?" "How often did Bush visit?"

Then, they began talking about Rice and Powell. (This is where it may be appropriate to mention that, yes, all 4 were Black.)

The male staffer said that Rice was nothing but a "face" who had never held an elected position and, in fact, had never had a job that she wasn't appointed to, and that Powell lost credibility when he went to the UN. The Security woman kept saying Rice was just a hair-do.

Next, they started talking about President Bush, how dumb and incompetent he was. The male staffer said, "He let an entire city drown." He repeated this line.

That was when I had to say something.

"Excuse me, but, what could he do when the Governor and Mayor refused to allow him in?"

The Staffer laughed, shook his head, and said that "He shouldn't have been stopped by that. He should have gone in."

I said, "My G_d, I hope not!" (I don't say the Lord's name like this very often.) All four laughed at me and the staffer said that the President should have gone on in.

(this is when my group nearly dragged me out)

The trash and aggressive street vendors were like a maze on the sidewalks surrounding Union Station and the Capitol through Thursday night.

We were encouraged to be surrounded at our hotel and all over DC by other Pro-life groups and activists. Larry and I shared an elevator with Father Frank Pavonne on Thursday night.

The Mass at the National Shrine was packed. It was a beautiful and moving experience, even for this Baptist.

There were at least 300,000 marchers at the Mall on Thursday. It took over 1 1/2 hours for us to clear the intersection at Constitution Street, where we left the Mall.

However, there were still tons of people wearing Obama pins, waving flags desecrated with pictures of the new President, and buying up more and more souvenirs.

First. I commend you for going to the kapital to stand up for conservative America.

Second. We have to muster courage to confront these evil left wing commmies. I commend you for making a stand in the belly of the beast. And then walking away without satisfying those leftists with an arrest call for disruptive behavior from a right winger. I know I couldn’t have stopped my commentary of confrontation. Even though the kapital is supposed to be a fair 1st Amendment playing ground.

The trash around the inaugural averaged about $1 million a ton. And that is just what they have collected. Seeing our kapital in that 3rd world presentation should make our enemies feel better about amerika. We are regressing rapidly to extinction.

Thank you for your commendation!

I think I *should* get arrested a few times.

However, I’m probably safe: that would mean that they would risk admitting that there’s a pro-life woman doctor.

Our tour was one of the 11:40 tours. The docent was excellent.

The trouble came later, when we went to the House Gallery.

Our friend had a fancy camera with a huge lens. The boy at the desk where they took our electronics kept trying to shove it into a cubby that was too small and then acted as though my friend was the problem.

Then, later, we went through a second level of security and my husband’s car key was deemed a problem. “If it has a battery, it’s electronic.” and “Haven’t you ever been on a plane?”

Thanks for the bumps! I've posted a mini-review at LifeEthics, along with a couple of pictures of the crowd. http://www.lifeethics.org/www.lifeethics.org/uploaded_images/March-for-Life-January-22-2009-028-734113.jpg

Thanks for the bump, Meek!

Since the media did not cover us much, saying “thousands” rather than hundreds of thousands, I wanted to document the huge crowds.

More pictures - mostly of the time when we were all gathering and then leaving the Mall - at http://www.lifeethics.org/www.lifeethics.org/2009/01/more-pictures-from-march-for-life-in.html

Thanks for the ping Meek, and thank you hocndoc for describing your experience and for speaking out. Sad to know the Security guards lie to people - or perhaps they were too dumb to actually know the truth.

Republican equals ‘bad’ to them and they aren’t going to change.

At first, I noticed and enjoyed hearing what I think was a Puerto Rican accent spoken by the woman. Then, I was saddened when I realized that the black woman US Capitol policewoman, in full uniform including hat, making fun of Secretary Rice’s hair. Repeatedly and with hand gestures.

Goodness, so much for solidarity among women, and black women in particular, huh?

However, I was concerned when I looked the Capitol police up on the Internet. These are the police that work under the Office of Inspector General, who investigates “fraud and abuse” in Medicare and other Federal funds.

From the US Capitol Police website:
http://www.uscapitolpolice.gov/oig.php

Office of Inspector General
Carl W. Hoecker, Inspector General

* Office of Audits
* Office of Investigations
* How to Report Fraud Waste and Abuse

Office of Inspector General Mission

Under Public Law 109-55, August 2, 2005, Congress established the United States Capitol Police Office of Inspector General (OIG). The Inspector General (IG) reports directly to the United States Capitol Police Board, and heads OIG. The OIG supervises and conducts audits, inspections, and investigations involving USCP programs, functions, systems, or operations.

OIG is also responsible for:

* Promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of USCP programs and operations;
* Preventing and detecting fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in USCP programs and operations and;
* Reporting to Congress on OIG activities.

That amazes me how much ‘power’ they really have. Imagine children visiting there and the lies that could be told to them.

If you were not afraid to do so, it would be good to make a complaint about your experience.

I never quite understood WHY the Blacks never accepted Rice and Powell. When President Bush picked them I thought it would excite the Black population.

Instead, they derided them. I believe I even heard mention of “they're not one of us” and comments about their ‘light skin color’. Things like that.

Wonder why they think Obama is ‘one of them’? He's half White and wealthy.

He's a Democrat who promises them everything, that's why.

Watching the debate today, I realized that the pin that the man wore meant that the “male staffer” must have been an Illinois Representative!

So, not a security guard but an Illinois Representative?
That would explain it. Thanks for informing us hocdoc!
