Atlanta gay nightlife photographer Gary Salles was arrested in Winchester, Tenn., over the weekend on allegations that he was part of an international child porn operation and sold crystal methamphetamine, according to a report from Nashville television station News Channel 5.
Police said Salles, 57, and Mike Lattimore drove from Atlanta to Tennessee to sell drugs as well as sell computer files and images of children having sex, the station reported. Police also alleged the men were selling a boy, age 13 or 14, for $10,000. They were arrested Jan. 17 and were being held in jail on $1 million bond, according to The Tennessean, a daily paper in Nashville.
"To see the videos, firsthand, that he was sharing, that was exciting to him. For example, a 4-year-old being raped, molested. Ya know, he would really get excited," Chief Dennis Young of the Winchester
Police Department said, according to News Channel 5. Young was monitoring surveillance video Saturday inside a Winchester motel when the two were arrested. The FBI is also involved in the case.
Salles once served on Atlanta’s now defunct “Pearl Day” committee. He has also occasionally submitted photos for publication in David Atlanta magazine, which is owned by the same company that owns Southern Voice.
Winchester, Tenn., located in Franklin County, is more than 200 miles from Atlanta. Former Hoedowns proprietor Ben Elliott was arrested in Winchester late last year and faces federal charges of wire fraud. Elliott was scheduled to be sentenced today in federal court, but his sentencing date was postponed for one month, according to court documents.
