Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton appeared together at a question-and-answer forum before the National Automobile Dealers Association in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Asked his biggest regret after leaving office, Bush said he now wonders whether he should have tried to get Saddam Hussein to leave office at the end of the first Gulf War in 1991.
He told the gathering, "I've thought a lot about it, but at the end of Desert Storm, the question was should we have kind of kept going on that road to death and all this slaughter until Saddam Hussein showed up and laid his sword on the table, surrendered. And the common wisdom was he wouldn't do that."

Bill "Look What I Put on Monica's Lips" Clinton: "I didn't stop Rwanda genocide!"
HW, I would include not going into Bagdad. You bowed before international opinion, the Clinton way.
Amazing how they knew back then that Sadam would instead, crawl into a hole in the ground until we found him.
Bush I should have let The Bear go after him in Baghdad..But Powell put a stop to that.
Clinton,,he should regret having been elected.
And when GHWB ordered Gen. Schwartzkopf to stop the pursuit of Saddam Hussein, my wife and I came up out of our seats screaming at the TV “You’ve just got our 12 year old son destined for war you IDIOT!!” Guess what? That’s exactly what happened, our son served two combat deployments in Iraq.
Why is it us “common” (read stupid surfs) can see things just as clearly and in some cases MORE clearly than these wonderful, highly educated blue blood idiots? Pretty disgusting.
Yeah, you FAILED us HW, you truly did LIE with your no-tax pledge and micro-managing the 1st Gulf War, not allowing good combat leaders to do their job: KILL THE ENEMY, dammit! Am I angry, you damned right, it’s past time to take our country back from these retards, including this Kenyan illegal alien.
He's gone already..forget about it.
Not so. Bush ‘41 made the mistake of seeking UN approval which stated he was only authorized to remove Saddam from Kuwait, not invade Iraq.
But he did invade Iraq - and he stopped with victory in sight.
BTTT
Many choose to ignore this.
The only way he could get UN approval of the war, and sign on so many allies, was to agree not to go to Baghdad. To have done so would have been a direct breaking of his word. In retrospect he probably would have been better served by breaking his word than letting it go the way it did. He broke his “no new taxes” pledge and cost him his office anyway.
Thus the reason W went without UN resolution. Why involve nations, and be bound by resolutions, who are trading with the enemy despite UN sanctions. The UN has made itself irrelevant.
True, and like father, like...
Yes, and he seems to have forgotten it himself.
Bill, hate to tell ya but your biggest mistake was not resigning after being impeached.
HW, I would include not going into Bagdad. You bowed before international opinion, the Clinton way.”
HW also bowed to Powell, which still makes me wonder just who’s country Colin Powel is really supporting...
He really worries me.
I'm almost certain W held off until he got the OK from the UN. That was the speech Colin Powell gave that turned out to be full of incorrect information. Powell used that speech as his excuse for coming out of the closet as a liberal.
I remember well that day when Colin Powell and weakneed HW Bush wimped out to appease their future employers SA...I jumped off the coach and screamed you friggin’ idiots and have despised both ever since. IMO, in hindsight, if HWB had finished off Saddam I doubt he would have loss to BJC in 1992.
He proceeded without UN approval. Kerry tried to hang that around his neck.
Yes, Powell is a “Reverse Tom”, i.e., appears like a Tom to decoy whitey into a Pied Piper following him into a liberal path.
I have much more respect for black leaders who are what they say they are.
