This week's media feud between Barack Obama and Rush Limbaugh has far more significance than you might suspect. When Limbaugh came out with his reaction to the possibility of a successful left-leaning Obama administration with a heartfelt and purposefully incendiary "I hope he fails", it was the first shot in an inevitable war.
Dismissed as a mere right-wing blowhard by much of the left, Limbaugh is perhaps the closest thing to a unifying voice in the American conservative movement. His syndicated radio show is on the air for three hours a day Monday through Friday in hundreds of markets: 15 hours a week of solid commentary and opinion with no holds barred. He is the highlight of the rural American lunch hour, and his strong, confident voice can be heard in mechanic's shops, petrol stations and barbershops every day. He is as he claims an excellent broadcaster, a shameless and skilful self-promoter and a mover and shaker among the conservative elite. One or two marriages ago, he was wed to his bride under the auspices of supreme court justice Clarence Thomas. Last time I checked, that was a hard booking to get.
Limbaugh first came to prominence as a force in national politics in the 1994 elections, which brought a Contract With America-waving Republican majority to Congress. That deprived Bill Clinton of the agreeable legislature he wanted for his reform. After that, Limbaugh was a perpetual thorn in the Clintons' sides, ultimately leading to Bill Clinton's impeachment and setting the stage for the controversial election of George Bush. Limbaugh was instrumental in convincing the right-wing rank-and-file to support the Patriot Act, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and a possible air raid on Iran.

The ‘RAT “messiah” is in way over his head.
My money is in Rush!
The media better stand up for Rush because if he goes so do they.
Rush has poofters like the author over for lunch then makes them clean the pool.
Drudge is headlining a DEM petiton against Rush...just mail the dude a huge check you morons...
“Sheesh. The manipulation of information is worldwide.”
That’s what we’re up against.
Fear of low approval ratings have paralyzed them, its blackmail by the MSM, pure and simple.
We support America and don’t want it to fail either, Rush.
Perhaps. But with gutless Republicans cowering and looking for acceptance by the masses, The man may soon reach the point of near absolute power.
Everyone has got to read the whole article.
It starts out saying that Obama picked the right time and the right guy to attack. Obama is absolutely brilliant.
Then it gives Rush credit for not throwing verbal bombs but replying in a very canny way. I was going to quote that paragraph, which does Rush real justice, but it’s too long. Read it.
Then it closes by praising Obama to the skies again. And it ends, oddly, recommending that Obama should take the “Chicago way” and, wait for this, rub Rush out. Metaphorically, of course. I think.
Rush-Hannity-Levin-Ingraham, et. al. have been a losing bet the past two cycles. On top of that, you have a cadre of rhinos packing the congress.
obama/axelrod picked this ‘fight’ because they have an endgame and they want to distract the masses. obama knows that conservative radio has lost its punch.
Once again, the hands off approach to the BC issue will go down as an intentional shot to the foot when the truth finally comes out.
LOL! 0bama is so naive! What a zero.
Whose foot? Not disagreeing, just curious.
Obama is a treacherous viper who is trying to hoodwink the GOP to cover his own wickedness.
Rush was correct today. Obama needs no Republicans to ram through his pork barrel, big government pig feed. Rush says, correctly, let them pass it without the GOP and fall flat on their faces. They quicker the commies fail, the quicker sanity will return.
The Dems always wanted Pres. Bush to fail, going so far as to declare the Iraq Surge a failure before it even started...
Obama, in his own words, says that he ‘has lived in muslim countries.’
