The House Commission on Un-American Activities published five volumes of evidence and exhibits (in this series) proving that communism is evil. It is interesting to note that what appears above was considered just more evidence that communism is utterly the enemy of mankind. That was the attitude in the 1950s. Things are a little different today, after two generations of socialist propaganda. There are many people today who would not only agree with most (or perhaps even all) the doctrines above, but add that they are in the finest tradition of American liberty and freedom and so on. How decades of relentless socialist propaganda can change things.

I haven't been in the debates on the subject but I would say that separation of the state from religion would be a rarity indeed. Usually the two have been one in the major states of the past.
Think of Babylon, Greece, Rome, Britain. even Russian nationalism is speaking more fondly of the Russian Orthodox Church as a cultural possession if not a spiritual one.

I think the Soviets thought they could have not only separation of church and state but separation of religion and people, something that has never worked.
