DeMint Calls for Republicans to Take a Stand
Human Events ^ | 2009-01-28 | Brittany Smith

“This is not change you can believe in,” said Sen. Jim DeMint of Barack Obama’s stimulus plan at a Heritage Foundation briefing on Tuesday. “This is business as usual in Washington.”

The South Carolina Republican, and other Republicans, are taking a stand against the $825-billion bailout plan. He said that since the conservatives are in the minority now, the way to get things done is to “take things to the people.” He believes that one of the ways conservatives can do this is through blogging and by pushing the new website www.ReadTheStimulus.org. These methods are helping to “drive the political process” and are making people aware exactly what is in the stimulus plan.

Just saw Mike Pence on with Nora, MSNBC speaking about the stimulus and Rush. Pence was outstanding! He pushed back and did NOT let Nora condemn Rush nor stand down on not supporting this bill. He was great.

Mike Pence is one of few true conservatives in the House. The man should be running for President. He also helped stage the sit in last year with the Rats went home and didn’t vote on energy problems.

$2.4 billion carbon capture products...

$4.19 billion for ACORN and other bogus “community organizing” groups...

$650 million digital tv conversion...

$79 billion to bail out the state education system...

Hundreds of millions for family planning...

$400 million global warming research...

$50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts...

$200 million to refurbish the National Mall...

And the bill is not even a stimulus! Just 1% of the so-called stimulus
is for tax cuts for small businesses. And according to the Congressional
Budget Office, two thirds of the stimulus will not even be spent for
nearly two years!

Mike Pence is da man!

This bill only stimulates soviet...I mean...democrat constituencies and is just fuel for their national machine. And all us productive conservatives get to pay for it.

I must admit, the left’s way of screwing us this time is really masterful. And most Americans wander around clueless, wondering when American Idol is on.

I live in the state, and it even make me livid. California can drop off in the ocean, before I’ll back any funds at all in the way of a bailout.

That ass hat Schwarzenegger and the California Legislature need to be bitch slapped, but good. Their performance has been disgusting.

DeMint, Sadnford, Palin, Pence, etc, should LEAVE the Republican Party. They don’t NEED tha Olympia Snows, the Lindey Grahams, the John McCains and the Bushes.

They should go off and start a NEW Political Party - one who will by definition be CLEAN of RINOS and liberals.

Then RUN WITH IT in 2010 and 2012.

I think more and more conservatives are going to take the "John Galt" approach as this year progresses -- removing (to the greatest extent that they are able) their mindshare and their money from the "public domain."

When libs want to push this crap but there is no longer anyone willing to pay for it -- having moved their capital offshore, taken themselves out of the Social Security system, performing their business in the "underground economy," and so on -- the whole liberal house of cards will of necessity collapse.

Agreed. I have been suggesting that for a while. Something to replace the GOP, to turn it into a minority third party of wannabe semi-liberals.

To those whose stock reply to that is always: "No! It's our party, we have to take it back!" I can say only this: If your house is repeatedly infested with vermin, it will reach a point where trying to exterminate is futile. The only solution left is to raze it to the ground and start building from scratch. The Republican party has just about reached that point.

In place of Pence, I’d like to see Jeff Flake (AZ-6) leave with the others you mentioned and start a new party though.

The reason why is because Mr. Flake is against earmarks unlike Mr. Pence, Ron Paul, etc.

Pence failed to list my absolute favorite:

$726 million for after school snacks! If this passes it will be a new entitlement and it will be there until the US finally goes bankrupt and can't spend anymore.

You’re right that some people are more concerned with American Idol than with our economy. But then again a lot of the American Idol crowd have parents who were happy-go-lucky hippies, so it’s not surprising.

DeMint called the Stimulus bill “junk food for our starving economy.” Make that “junk food laced with arsenic for our starving economy.”

BTW: I had to laugh at your tagline. How true!

“This is not change you can believe in,” said Sen. Jim DeMint (R - SC)

Say NO! to Obama Porkulus Bill - (it's Obama / Dem bacon-pork,   NOT economic stimulus)

We need the GOP Senators to put together a FILIBUSTER and shut down the stimulus bill, so they go back and rewrite it.

We need the GOP Senators to put together a FILIBUSTER and shut down the stimulus bill, so they go back and rewrite it. We can do that with 41 unified Senate Republicans, its a long shot, but doable if every GOP Senator gets on board... (points #1-#4)

THERE SHOULD BE 100% REPUBLICAN SUPPORT FOR THIS POSITION.

Obama Porkulus Bill = From another thread:

Scroll to the end. The Dems want to give money to the telcos and energy companies by subsidizing infrastructure outbuilds.

Use the Dems’ namecalling right back at them: they are in the control of Big Telco, Big Energy, and Big Voter Fraud.

The ACORN stuff is a quasi-money laundering scheme to get the taxpayer money back into campaign funds for Obama. Disgusting.
