President Obama's choice to run the Justice Department has assured senior Republican senators that he won't prosecute intelligence officers or political appointees who were involved in the Bush administration's policy of "enhanced interrogations."
Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond, Missouri Republican and vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, said in an interview with The Washington Times that he will support Eric H. Holder Jr.'s nomination for attorney general because Mr. Holder assured him privately that Mr. Obama's Justice Department will not prosecute former Bush officials involved in the interrogations program.
Mr. Holder's promise apparently was key to moving his nomination forward. Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 17-2 to favorably recommend Mr. Holder for the post. He is likely to be confirmed by the Senate soon.
Mr. Bond also said that Mr. Holder told him in a private meeting Tuesday that he will not strip the telecommunications companies that cooperated with the National Security Agency after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks of retroactive legal immunity from civil lawsuits -- removing another potential sticking point among GOP senators.
In the interview Wednesday, Mr. Bond said, "I made it clear that trying to prosecute political leaders would generate a political firestorm the Obama administration doesn't need."
He added: "I was concerned about previous statements he made and others had made. He gave me assurances that he would not take those steps that would cause major disruptions in our intelligence system or cause political warfare. We don't need that kind of political warfare. He gave me assurances he is looking forward."

I. Don’t. Believe. Them. For. A. Second.
NOTHING from the Republican Mental and Moral Pygmies about the Second Amendment and this idiot’s record in that regard.
OMINOUS.
What about the gun grabbing, Bond, you dumbass? Did you get a commitment on that?
Watch my supposedly conservative senator Cornyn roll over on Holder as well.
Excuse me... I’m going to go puke now.
Sen. Bond should be primaried out of office in the next election.
This kissy kissy with radical Obamashams has me sick to the stomach.
Another Republican grasping at straws, searching for cover for the betrayal to come. We’ve sure got a corner on those types of players.
While puking, reflect and be thankful for what he got.
Cornyn voted against him in committee today!
There’s still Florida swamp land for sale.............
Or the Brooklyn Bridge, now renamed Crooklyn.........
This needs to be posted over at DU and we can go lurk and watch heads explode....LOL!!
>> Cornyn voted against him in committee today!
Yes, but...
a) Cornyn was the lone vote preventing a voice vote for Hillary. Then he voted for her.
b) Cornyn voted for tax cheat and liar Geithner to head Treasury.
c) Cornyn, like Bond, has also made noises about getting the concession of no prosecution of Bush administration.
Those facts cause me to fear Cornyn will roll over for Holder.
I pray I’m wrong.
Another clear example why the time is long past!
Bond announced he is not running for re-election.
Did you get it in writing?????????
/sarc
But it depends on what the meaning of is, is.
I was surprised that Cornyn voted for Geithner too..not so much Hillary.
I was worried about Cornyn the minute that the rinos trying to take control of our party nominated him for a ‘leadership’ position. I hope he doesn’t continue to fall for their plots and ploys.
I have alot of faith in the man still though. Trying to remain calm where he is concerned for now.
Cornyn may have come down with johnfingkerry disease - he voted against it, before he voted for it.
>> I have alot of faith in the man still though. Trying to remain calm where he is concerned for now.
I have much less faith in Sen. Cornyn since last fall’s bailout vote. That was stupid, and not the least bit conservative.
I’m also concerned that, in his role as GOP Senatorial Committee Chairman, Cornyn is wooing Charlie Crist, the poofter governor of Florida, to run for the Senate:

Crist in the Senate is more of what we DO NOT need. Fiscally responsible? Ha. Read here how Crist VETOED spending cuts! Can you believe it? VETOED SPENDING CUTS:

Stay calm if you can. It’s better for your stomach. Sad to say, I am way beyond calm about the ever increasing herd of Senate RINOs...
