'Climate change' moralists are always talking about the need to take responsibility/set an example in the face of the imminent planetary apocalypse. Imagine my surprise, therefore, when I read this (in the New York Times):
WASHINGTON — The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat. “He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.
Thermostat down, coat on, Mr. President: the planet's in peril (or so you tell us).

Contining:
So this is the same President that said,
"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times . . . and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK."
Got it. Also, this was one of the most memorable quotes of the campaign, so why didn't the NYT story reference his obvious hypocrisy here?
On second thought, don't answer that.

He’s from Hawaii?? I guess they forgot he lived in Chi for many years, he could have acclimated. The guy is a self centered “It’s all about me” sort.

Didn’t he say yesterday that he was from Chicago and something like DC didn’t know how to deal with cold/icy weather?
To: Behind Liberal Lines
So if he was cold, why didn’t he just keep his jacket on? (for the children)

To: Behind Liberal Lines
All Things Considered, January 28, 2009 · President Obama took a moment Wednesday to comment on how the nation’s capital handles bad weather. He joked about bringing “flinty Chicago toughness” to Washington, D.C.

PROVE IT!!!Hasn't he been living in Chicago for 20 years? He was just making fun of the residents of DC:
Obama gives D.C. cold shoulder over 'some ice'
After living in Chicago, he jokes about his girls getting day off from school
President Barack Obama, steeled by many snowy Chicago winters, expressed disbelief Wednesday when his daughters woke up to find that their classes had been canceled for the day.
"My children's school was canceled today. Because of, what? Some ice?"
As my children pointed out, in Chicago, school is never canceled," Obama said to laughter. "In fact, my 7-year-old pointed out that you'd go outside for recess. You wouldn't even stay indoors. So, I don't know. We're going to have to try to apply some flinty Chicago toughness."
Asked if he meant the people of the national's capital are wimps, Obama said: "I'm saying, when it comes to the weather, folks in Washington don't seem to be able to handle things."

The Times article is just cover. A lot of people objected to the photo, saying not wearing a jacket showed the O was disrespecting the office. They had to make up something.

I still don’t follow the ‘logical explanation’...he was cold, so he turned up the thermostat, and then he took his coat off because he was hot?
It would be ‘logical’ tu just leave the thermostat alone and leave the coat on.
I think a more ‘logical’ explanation would be that he doesn’t like wearing a coat, and doesn’t seem to believe that the position requires wearing a coat.
The fawning media are bordering on Pravda stupid.

My dad lived most of his adult life in the Pacific Northwest and used to keep the thermostat down on 65 when we were kids.
Now He keeps in on 80 and wears a sweater. Old people’s ability to regulate their body temp wears out like everything else.

In response to the 1973 OPEC oil embargo,
President Jimmy Carter (1977-1981)
created the Department of Energy in 1977,
with a key goal being the establishment of a
national energy policy that promoted clean
and alternative fuels. Carter famously
installed solar panels on the White House
roof and set the mansion's thermostats at 68
degrees to save energy. LINK:

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times . . . and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK." The problem isn't whether or not he wears a coat indoors, or whether or not he turns up the thermostat. If it was me, I'd turn up the heat and take off my coat.
The problem is the hypocrisy, the endless passing judgement on people for living their lives as they wish, when you yourself also want to be able to live your life as you wish.
I don't care if Gore has an enormous palace, and pays $2500 a month for electricity, good for him. I don't care if the Dem elite want to fly private jets every where they go, again, good for them. Its their money, they should spend it as they wish. I care, though, when these same people want to hector the rest of us about our electric bills, and preach to the rest of us about what we drive.
Biggest difference between a conservative and a Dem? The conservative wants the freedom to make his own choices, and he's willing to grant you the same respect. He expects to pay the cost of his own choices, and he expects you to do the same. The Dem wants the freedom to make his own choices, and he wants power over you. And he wants you to pay for it coming and going.
The Dems have learned that the easiest way to manipulate people is by manipulating their guilt. Thats mostly what all this is about. If you can make someone feel guilty about every breath they take, every morsel of food they eat, every watt they consume, every moment of every day brings that nagging feeling that this planet is dying because of something they are doing, you can then offer yourself as absolution. Thats the game.

Maybe Bush in his "note to Obama" remarked "there was always a draft" coming from "somewhere or nuther" in the Oval Office. Turn the heat up when you want someone to stay..turn the heat down when you want them to leave..shortly. Those from the South won't take the cold..those from the North won't like the heat, but will adapt more to either.
