DURHAM After the inauguration of the first black president, America is now on the precipice of changes that were never before possible, 1960s radical turned academic Angela Davis told a crowd of hundreds at the University of New Hampshire last night.
The vestiges of slavery, colonization and exploitation remain rife throughout America, as is evidenced by the over-representation of minorities in prison, Davis said. The prison population, now estimated to be one in 100 adult Americans, only contributes to the oppression of minorities, she said.
It is a pattern seen across the country, even in New Hampshire, Davis said.
In the Granite State, white men are arrested at a rate of 289 per 100,000, but for black men it is more than 2,000 per 100,000, Davis said.

Wasn't there a character named 'Fro-tho, in a recent fantasy movie?
You get all UP in da mans face, yo.
Though, if you're successful, whitey gonna miss the show "COPS".
I’m proud to say my Dad turned her back at the Canadian border(being an immigration officer)back in the late 60’s.
Apparently the exchange with her and people in the car caused my dad to apply for a gun permit from the immigration service - he felt that threatened.
And now we have a socialist president with bomber buddies like Ayers building more rat nests amongst our kids.
My Dad died peacefully in ‘97. My Mom is physically healthy at age 88 but has no shortterm memory.
I’m glad they don’t have to deal with our current
communist governmental takeover. I’m sad my son will have to.
Just my thoughts....
Thanks, but I'm not really interested in whether he 'stole' his designs from someone else. What matters is the guy is a communist propagandist AND that, now, "President Obama" welcomed him with open arms and praised his work!
I did not read the article, but what does Ms. Davis propose to do with people who break the law? let them move into her house? My solution to that problem would be to not break the law so you don’t have to be “oppressed”.
Thats true, but I guess we need to start incarcerating more whites, guilty or not, to achieve equality? Yeah, we need affirmative action jails, ...I think I am becoming racist.
You're welcome. Check out Shepard Fairey's profile on Wikipedia:
Frank Shepard Fairey (born February 15, 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina) is a contemporary artist, graphic designer and illustrator who emerged from the skateboarding scene[1] and became known initially for his "André the Giant Has a Posse" sticker campaign. His work became more widely known in the 2008 United States Presidential Election, specifically his Barack Obama "HOPE" poster. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston calls him one of today's best known and most influential street artists.[2] He usually omits his first name. His work is included in the collections at The Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.[3]

Fairey created a series of posters supporting Barack Obama's candidacy for President in 2008, including the iconic "HOPE" portrait.[19][20][21] He also created an exclusive design for Rock the Vote. On November 5, 2008, the city of Chicago posted street banners throughout the downtown Loop business district featuring Fairey's Obama "HOPE" portrait. The banners say "Congratulations Chicago's Own Barack Obama, President-Elect of the United States of America".[22] Fairey created two additional images, "Change" and "Vote", for use by the official Obama Campaign, since his original image could not be seen to have any official affiliation with the presidential campaign since it had been "perpetuated illegally"[23] and independently by the graffiti/street artist.
Contrary to the above citation, Fairey has noted in several interviews that he had originally created the iconic poster with "PROGRESS" wording instead of "HOPE", but after a couple weeks of distribution, the Obama campaign contacted Fairey and asked that he change it to "HOPE" since that was more in line with the campaign's message, resulting in the campaign-approved "HOPE" poster.[24] Fairey distributed a staggering 300,000 stickers and 500,000 posters during the election campaign, funding his grassroots electioneering through poster and fine art sales."I just put all that money back into making more stuff, so I didn't keep any of the Obama money," said Fairey in a December 2008 interview.[25] Fairey received a formal letter of thanks from Barack Obama for his contribution to his 2008 presidential campaign. The letter stated:
"I would like to thank you for using your talent in support of my campaign. The political messages involved in your work have encouraged Americans to believe they can change the status-quo."
"Your images have a profound effect on people, whether seen in a gallery or on a stop sign. I am privileged to be a part of your artwork and proud to have your support."-- Barack Obama, February 22, 2008
Fairey created the portrait of Barack Obama that TIME Magazine used as the cover art for its 2008 Person of the Year issue.[26] His influence, particularly with Obama's presidential campaign, contributed to him being named a Person of the Year 2008 by GQ Magazine.[7]
In January 2009, the 'HOPE' image was acquired by the US National Portrait Gallery, and became part of the permanent collection.[27] It was unveiled and put on display at the Gallery on January 17, 2009.[28]
Blacks won’t be happy until America looks like Somali.
It’s really liberating.
“but is a racist who loathes whites and her idea of justice is that black criminals go free even those committing the most heinous crimes, especially crimes perpetrated on ‘whitey’.”
Of course, terrorizing whites is going to be the new PC.
My solution would be to throw about 10 colt 1911’s into the courtyard plus maybe 50 loaded magazines.
But the prison admin should use only “green” recylable bodybags to remove debris and only natural materials to soak up the blood.
The people oppress themselves by repeating the same mistakes and refusing to learn from them.
I would like to formally apologize for my employer’s moronic choice of a speaker for MLK month. (Funny, I thought it was a day)
The good news is that in a recent class I had of smart, well-read graduate students, not one of them knew who Angela Davis was! Anecdotal evidence to be sure, but interesting none the less. I’m not sure Angela has any pull other than with re-treads like Ayers and other old radicals.

Any word on at what rate per 100,000 each particular race commits crimes requiring imprisionment?
Her thesis — that the “prison-industrial complex” enslaves black people — requires a correction for the crime rate of each racial group.

Yes, communism has really been "liberating" for so many millions of people. Just ask all those murdered or starved to death by Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc. Rev Wright's Black Liberation Theology, btw, is also communist. See my FR Home page for more on that.
What Imus said.
I hear White guys have it tougher in prison.
