Lawmaker: Illegal immigrants should get in-state tuition

A bill proposing to grant in-state tuition to all Colorado high school students, including illegal-immigrants, was introduced Friday by Sen. Chris Romer.

"For us to be an economic success, we need to make sure all these kids can get into college," said Romer, D-Denver. "And right now a small number of students can't go to college because their immigration status."

"I firmly believe we shouldn't punish children for the decisions of adults," Romer said...

Romer's argument may be more likely to succeed in these trying economic times. In fact, he's already touting support from Republican businessmen around the state, including Dick Monfort, a Weld County cattleman, chairman of the University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees and the owner of the Colorado Rockies.

"This policy, for all its compassion, amounts to Colorado thumbing its nose at federal immigration law," said Sen. Shawn Mitchell, R-Broomfield. "States can't extend in-state tuition to illegal immigrants unless they make that same offer to everyone from every state in the country. In other words, it does away with the concept of in-state tuition."

“I’m sorry fellow Freepers but the illegal immigration issue is a lost cause. Too many special interests.”

If that is the case, the entire country is a lost cause for the same reason.

Shall we just throw our hands up, watch football and say to hell with the USA?

“Why not? AMERICAN smokers are going to start paying for “healthcare” for MEXICAN NATIONALS up to the age of 30.”

We’re doing that in a lot of states already. For the young ones and the old ones.

“Throw Colorado, California and any other state which seems to put illegal aliens at the front of the line
OUT OF THE COUNTRY!

We should secede from these idiots for our own self preservation.”

The ‘give up’ crowd is in full force today. I see you live in Washington State. What are your policies against illegal aliens with your liberal governor. I bet they’re as bad as California from what I’ve read. The only reason you have for such ‘confidence’ is that California, and Oregon are the path from Mexico to the state of Washington. The good people of California have tried to warn the rest of the country for years, but most refused to listen.

You were warned.

You do realize that Seattle is a sanctuary city, don’t you?

Romer...Romer..the name soinds familiar.....

My first thought, also, being a L.A. resident. The Romer family wreaks havoc wherever they go. Why hold back on the illegals, though, they've been given everything else on a silver platter. They've turned our country into a shambles, so hahaha, give 'em in the in-state tuition. Most of them are drop-outs anyway. Usually they don't even get out of high school.
