Liam Neeson's CIA thriller "Taken" bumped off "Mall Cop" at the weekend box office, raking in $24.6 million and helping fuel the first $1 billion January in Hollywood history.
"Taken" follows Neeson as a former CIA operative trying to track down a group of kidnappers who want to sell his daughter into the sex slave trade.
"We are thrilled. It's an all-audience movie," said 20th Century Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston.
"When people come out they are going to talk about it. I think it's going to play for a long time."

'Taken' is a good movie, and I recommend it. (PG-13)
Liam Neeson is an underrated actor IMO.
Trailer for ‘Taken’
I agree. He was excellent.
This movie was amazing, and I love the fact that it was politically incorrect (REALISTIC) regarding the villains.
Amazing movie, and it flowed very well!
Hollywood (for some strange reason) really has their act together this year.
I loved Gran Torino, Defiance, Valkyrie and Taken.
Great movie. This guy made Jack Bauer look like a .... word that I can’t say here. No mercy, no trials...
Liam Neeson was in top form.
He wasn't playing around at all.
Loved every minute of it, especially the conclusion to the chase scene outside the airport terminal.
We took my 87 yr old mother who’s in a wheelchair. She usually falls asleep in movies, but she was wide awake in this one! She really liked it.
Hmmm, we may have to go to the movies this week, sounds like this is worthy, thanks for the ping.
Is definitely on my short list.
You’re welcome! We actually had to sit way down in front because the theater was so crowded.
You won’t be sorry, it’s very good.
I predict the liberals and pacifists over at MSNBC will be wringing their hands over this movie.
There’s a 5-minute extended trailer on the movie’s Web site:
Click “Video”, then click “5 Minute Clip.”
I’m sure you’ll have a fun day.
Every day with Eaker is a fun day!
Moral of the story ....never fook with kids of old retired spooks that retained their specific skills !
You will enjoy this !!
But not as good as Jon Voight. :-)
Hmmm . . . wonder who is scarier an old retired spook or a really pissed off mom?
Thanks for the recommendation.
In the movies case .....the spook. In your case ya win !
You’ll like it.....just keep Eeeeek away from 16 penny nails and jumper cables for a while after he gets home.
Well hell - there goes our sex life! ;-0
Soon as I hit post I said .......this’ll be good.
I thought is was down with transporter. Gran Torino was far superior as was defiance. Nilsen was good but the movie was low caliber.
The poster of the year.
Aslan kicks a**, again!
Could very well be...
Yes, and what a fun ride...

Good. If it reviews well here, it’s worth seeing.
I saw this movie a few months ago in Costa Rica. It is a great action movie.
He is my favorite actor. My computer wallpaper is Neeson in a kilt in Rob Roy.
I also heard about it here, which is why I went to see it.
No Liberal themes or overtones AT ALL
No F bombs or nudity-just violence.
Hero is the dad.
"Enhanced interrogation techniques" are used
Bad guys are slimy French, Albanians, and Arabs.
Idiot is the liberal mom who lets her daughter go to Europe following U2 in concert because "all the kids are doing it"
You will love this movie! (Go see it just to piss off MSNBC)
Already made 67 million over seas before this 20+ million opening in US.
That’s the one -sigh
After we saw it on Sat, I told my brother to go. He actually did go yesterday, and he liked it too.
It reminded me of movies I grew up with in the 50’s where the good guy killed the bad guys and won!
You don’t want to do something like that to a former CIA operative.
Okay, now I really want to see this.
especially Liam Neeson.....
Thanks for PING! Great movie, I’ve been trying to get my teenage daughter to see it. She’s wise to it...”Dad, I know it’s a story about bad things happening to girls....”
