Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.
WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.
STEELE: Yes.

WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?
STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

Sad to say, those who are determined to get an abortion are going to do so regardless of legislation or party affiliation.
In answer to the title:
Yeah, both of them.
No one is suggesting that we abandon those beliefs. Do you actually believe that amongst all those who voted for Reagan in two elections that not one was gay or pro-abort? I personally know women who had abortions who voted for Reagan. They love Reagan, though weren't too keen on his pro-life stance. THIS is what Steele is TRYING to convey, if only some of you bothered to LISTEN.
Last I heard, neither I nor the Republican Party had sworn allegiance to Satan.
It may come as a surprise to you, but conservatism and Christianity are not one and the same. There is a correlation, to be sure, but not a one-to-one correspondence. There are a fair number of folks to consider themselves “conservative” and who have no views at all regarding abortion, contraception, etc. If “conservatism” means passing some religious litmus test, then say goodbye to every liberty-oriented conservative who doesn’t go to church on a regular basis.
I’m a conservative becaause I want government to leave me the h**l alone. I’m not going to trade a government drunk of Left-wing Fascism for a government drunk on Religious Fascism. I’m not going to trade a federal government that bans “ecologically destructive” light bulbs for a federal government that bans abortions. Either way, individual liberty is lost. You got a problem with women having abortions? Then TALK to that woman and try to PERSUADE her that her choice is wrong. Using the armed power of the State to FORCE a woman to not have an abortion is as Fascist as anything coming out of the mouths of Pelosi, Reid, et al. Red Fascism is as bad as Blue Fascism.
Make up your mind. Do you believe in liberty, or do you believe in using armed force to impose your views on everyone else (i.e., Fascism)? You can’t have it both ways.

Many have suggested it, but none have defined it as a workable strategy.
That's a slippery slope this early in the game, especially sense Steele is a Black Republican and the Rats are just salivating at the chance to prove us "racists".

Roughly 90 million eligible voters stayed home last November, and I suspect many of them were conservatives. Who will reach out to them?
I couldn't care less what someone who has no idea what I've done in my life to support the unborn thinks about that.
How can I make that claim? Easy. You remind me of Joe Biden. He states that he too is pro-life. For him personally. But is OK fine with anyone who is pro-choice. Hyprocrite.

About your PS. Wanna expand on your thoughts on Sarah Palin? I bet she really frosts your cookies. She is a true pro-life candidate. I just think it's funny you going on and on about her, and you're apparently completely clueless that her very first veto as governor was of a bill which would have prevented same-sex couples from receiving benefits.
Thus, this "truly pro-life, godly woman who speaks true conservative values who is the bright and shining future of conservatism" with her VERY FIRST veto as governor supported giving "partner" benefits to the gay partners of state employees.
So by your own standard, Sarah Palin is a hypocrite, and not a conservative.

Maybe when Sarah Palin starts cuddling up to him (which she’s probably already started), the Palin worshippers on FR will finally get a clue.
I could care less about the GOP. The CONSERVATIVES are in trouble! That's who I care about. As we've seen, being a Republican does not mean you're a Conservative. It looks like the Conservatives are without a party. Without a choice. (Look at that McCain moron they tried to foist on us.) Where was our choice there?! It's all over folks. Time to go home. The party's over.
The problem is that they are trolling for a bunch of folks who are liberal on the 2nd amendment, national defense and other issues. Frankly, if someone works against my interests I damn sure don't intend to protect theirs.
Don't worry, Sarah Palin will make you once again a believer.

And spare me the "public school changes your kid's values" stuff. I know plenty of conservatives whose kids are indoctrinated with pro-Obama crap from first grade on. They don't whine about it; they teach their kids and bring them up with Christian values, and their kids aren't brainwashed.
"Reaching out" and "changing to attract" are two ways of saying the same thing.
Nobody is trying to redefine conservatism, Steele wants to redefine the image of the party. I’d rather share a platform with someone who thinks 90% like me than consistently lose elections and live under the rule of someone who think 2% like me.
