I can’t say that I’ve ever received a more gratifying reply on FreeRepublic.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

First let me say, I don’t agree with any Republican, including Steele, with the “big tent” theory.

But I know Michael Steele has a good heart, because when he is on the radio talk shows, he brings up the life issue himself. He is SINCERELY prolife.

And this Video Cafe, and other liberal groups have an agenda to get Republicans angry at Republicans, and some Republicans are playing right into their hands. Some Republicans even stay home on Election Day, and the result is that left is taking over in the WH and in Congress.

I saw the interview myself, and Steele mostly said stuff that I agree with, but of course, Video Cafe didn’t mention that.

Here’s a snip of what I mean, and a link to the transcript of the interview, if anyone is interested:

“..I’m a pro-life Roman Catholic conservative, always have been.

WALLACE: You also support a constitutional amendment against gay marriage.

There are numerous "pro choice" voters on the Democrat side. It is an unfortunate truth that you can't win an election without pulling in voters from "the other side", and that takes leadership on your important issues.

BTW, there are NO MODERATE VOTERS of any kind. Our electorate is organized as a three dimensional bi-modal saddle. It simply has no middle.

It's easy for Republicans to "reach out" to homosexual voters with an appeal to TAX RATES. Since they are overwhelmingly single, they end up paying higher rates for the same income.

You do not have to appeal to their pudenda to get their attention. Once they're out of the gay bars, airport toilets and bathhouses they have their minds on the most precious thing in their lives ~ THEIR MONEY.

It is possible for the party of business to attract their votes.

Remember that some pro-lifers helped to elect the current president, and 58% of Americans DO NOT approve of his rescinding of the so-called “Mexico City” policy. Rabid NARAL-loving extremists are a small minority, yet their view is representative of the Dem party. Why can’t we play to that strength?

The way Conservatives pull in votes from the other side is they defeat the RINOs in the primaries and then LEAD.

The point is you can get 100% of the Conservatives out to vote and if that's all the people you can get you will lose every single time.

It is necessary to LEAD Democrat voters to pull Republican levers.

Remember, all Democrats are not focused exclusively on their pudenda or killing their kids. You do not attract the rank and file with promises made to homosexuals or abortionists. If anything that encourages Democrats to just keep on voting Democrat "'cause, what's the difference".

I do hope you understand what I'm saying here.

I know it's difficult to believe that some normal people might well vote Democrat but they do. They must be LEAD away from their usual habits.

Well, why can't we? There's no reason we can't other than a decided disinterest on the part of a lot of Republicans for down in the ditch fights to the death.

It is crazy to expect that "pro-choice" voters can be a part of the Republican Party and not push hard for the Republican Party to be more and more "pro-choice".

Crazy, and for those who believe in the Right to Life, suicidal.

So you find "common ground" on "other issues" with those who are liberal on abortion...

And they then move the Republican Party to the left on abortion.

And still more babies die.

Worth it to you?

What do you want common ground on? War and supply side economics? Both are extremely unpopular election losers.

Now Michael Steele wants to reach out to those who would murder our posterity in order to create some kind of "Big Tent" where pro-abortionists and pro-lifers can find "common ground". Well, the only common ground I will ever share with a pro-abort is the graveyard. Maybe after all the pro-lifers re-register as independents, maybe then Michael Steele will decide to reach out to us instead of those who want to see another generation of Americans slaughtered in the womb. It is time to vote with our feet. We need to walk out of the Republican party in droves and let them know why. This is the one issue I will never compromise on. And it was the first one Michael Steele decided to compromise on. That means that Steele and I share no common ground.

Well said.
