Steele: GOP Should Reach Out To Gay, Pro-Choice Voters
Video Cafe (via Fox News) ^ | Feburary 1, 2009 | David Sunday

Posted on 02/02/2009 9:17:17 AM PST by UCFRoadWarrior

Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.

WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.

STEELE: Yes.

(watch video)

WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?

STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

The way to bring in more voters to the party is through RINOs, or near RINOs running in blue states and more liberal districts on platforms that can win there, much as Snowe and Collins do in Maine.

Well, they can try that, but they aren't going to do it with MY money.

We will never free them from enslavement to government if we tell them they can never be “true” conservatives. These slaves see government as their protector against those who would impose their will through force. Reading some of the comments on this thread, I’m not sure I blame them....

If we continue the way some folks here want us to go, there will shortly be three political movements in the United States: the Liberal/Socialist/Big Government Left, the Religious/Prohibitionist/Big Goverment Right, and those of us who want nothing to do with the liberty-crushing orthodoxy that those two movements represent. By default, socialism will emerge victorious. The Founding Fathers envisioned government as a “necessary evil”. Some, however, seem to envision government merely as the mechanism that will allow their prejudices to become the Law of the Land, the Constitution be d***ed.

It would be funny if it turned out the reason 0 Bama was so over funded was because the RNC was funneling him contributions from republicans under the table.

I wonder how many people screaming for his head here have actually watched and listened to the video at the link. Those few lines were taken out of context. He goes on to say that he is pro-life and pro-marriage amendment and that those positions will not change for the GOP. But he wants to reach out to other voters on “the other issues” like economics.

But, oh, no .. we can’t have any centrists who might appeal to pro-choice women, to gays, to those who maybe think an assault rifle isn’t necessary for hunting.

Actually they already have a party, the Democratic party, which offers them much more.

What can we offer?

A car in every Garage?

A Chicken in every Pot?

Nice try to hide behind your admission in post 252. But you’re too late. Try going back to your post # 153 in which you somehow “forgot” that Palin had her hands tied by the Constitution. Your words......... her very first veto as governor was of a bill which would have prevented same-sex couples from receiving benefits.

LOL You're hilarious!

You said I never said it. I did. So you sit there and think, "Hmm, how to lie out of this one? I know! 'You didn't say it soon enough!'"

Yet you didn't say you even knew this until AFTER I DID! LOL!

I know, this is sad, letting you hang yourself over and over. I shouldn't take advantage of someone so out of his league.

Based on your other anti-conservative comments, you can easily see why I recognized this as an attack on Palin. You claim you love Palin. Whatever. I won’t argue with you any more over that. Lets move back to the real issue.

Translation: Your lies and errors are all over this thread, time to move on!

You are on record as being in favor of the Republicans adopting the thoughts and practices that liberal democrats have espoused for years.

Another lie.

A simple way you can disprove this--and which you of course will have some BS excuse for when you fail:

Cut and paste where I am on record as being in favor of the Republicans adopting the thoughts and practices that liberal democrats have espoused for years.

Should be easy enough. Go to it.

Or admit you're a liar.

Your choice.

With that in mind, answer me this: How did Repubs acting and thinking like Democrats work out for us last November, hmmmm??

Strawman. Again.

I'll type slowly so you can keep up: No one is buying your lie, no matter how many times you repeat it, because my actual words say nothing like you claim.

Are you sorry your boy McCain lost? Do you think Republicans moving more and more to the left will solve our problems?

So sad.

But hilarious to see you twisting in the wind.

Someone please FReepmail this guy and tell him what an idiot he looks like.

Why don’t you spend your efforts trying to convince liberals to be conservative instead of doing the reverse here?

Worth repeating, so I will.

like that inside the beltway liberal who says she is conservative called Peggy Noonan

Those are the people who need to get the hell out of the GOP and it is not a generational thing like she said as I am 40 , my wife 36 and know plenty of younger folk who feel disgusted with the homo agenda

I was all set to condemn those remarks. But I just listened to the whole video.

Good. It seems that many either didn't watch it, or took out what they wanted to prove a point that he's not the right man for this job. From watching the whole interview yesterday, I think he will do a pretty good job. CNSNews did an interview with Steele that encompasses the issues on this thread if you want more info. Q&A with Michael Steele, Candidate for RNC Chairman

For me...

Its not about appealing to people. Its not about having the republican party winning elections. its about abandoning a socialist nation.

As humans we have the RIGHT to dissolve the bonds that tie us to others when those bonds become chains and those bonds HAVE become chains!

There is no salvation in the GOP nor is there any in the corrupt system that exists in this nation. Those who believe in limited government (anti-socialist) CANNOT win given the current playing field. Giving in to the demands of socialist is no victory, only utter defeat lies down that path. Its not about “inclusiveness” or populism, or focus groups.. Its about Freedom from a monstrous government that controls our daily lives from cradle to grave!

Screw Obama, the dems and the GOP. They are all appendages of the same creature. The ONLY way we are going to get our freedom back is to TAKE it back!

because when Reagan was president the homo’s were locked away in a nut house and rightly so, that was the law back then.

Now we have flaming homo’s running around telling everyone that they are normal and should have even special rights like civil unions, hate crime etc

From the article:

WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.

STEELE: Yes.

Steele helped found a group that supports candidates, yes, *candidates* who are pro-abortion and pro-homosexual. That is far more than simply "reaching out".

Heck, I think we ought to reach out to child molesters. They pay taxes, too, right? < / sarc >

Maybe the GOP can reach out to socialists.

My mistake. They already did.

same here, I am fed up of RINO’s and some of those so called republicans from liberal states.
They call themselves republicans and yet want homo’s to be married, let homo’s do their agenda and not bothered on abortion.
Then they say lets give phony a chance

NO CHANCE

Well, they can try that, but they aren't going to do it with MY money.

About all that can be said is that a RINO is better than Yankee, liberal Dem, or a California Dem. But that much can be said, and if RINOs can win in liberal blue states, then we'd be better off at least in caucusing to determine majorities, and on some issues.

Of course, there is one RINO from a desert state the party needs to replace in 2010, in the worst way.

Christians reach out to gays and witches all the time. We tell them the truth about the Lord and hope they will repent.

fed up of hearing from liberal republicans, it is the reason why so many RINO’s get into power and then ignore the conservative base.

The majority of people in this country are opposed to homo’s and their agenda and yet liberal republicans think we should reach out to what a small section of this country who hate the party anyway
