Steele: GOP Should Reach Out To Gay, Pro-Choice Voters
Video Cafe (via Fox News) ^ | Feburary 1, 2009 | David Sunday

Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.

WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.

STEELE: Yes.

(watch video)

WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?

STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

Correction to last post

Well he f***ing go again!should read, Well here we f***ing go again!

I was hoping this guy would be different but he is the same old moderate, left leaning type of RINO we have been getting. The party better get out their shovels because they are dead now without the conservative base.

Some of you folks are funny.

If Reagan is truly the model, please tell me when he ever refused to work with somebody over a difference of opinion on gay rights or abortion issues.

If the current Republican Party shared Reagan's views on government's role, I might agree with you.

Unfortunately...

What a disaster. Steele immediately exposes himself as a RINO. Conservatives need to make it clear that there won’t be any campaign contributions flowing in as long as this is the position of the chairman of RNC.

I have to remember to send a ‘change of address’ notice to the RNC so they send their crap to somebody else’s address. For three years I’ve been throwing their solicitations in the trash unopened, but I don’t even want to waste that much effort anymore.

I have no problem reaching out to those people as long as we don’t compromise our position on those issues.

reaching out to these voters versus adopting their agenda; whether it be for political or genuine purposes, are night and day...

How exactly do you "reach out" and appeal to such people without moving their agenda forward?

I am a lifelong conservative Republican. If the pro-life, pro-family, less government, pro-free enterprise tenets of the party are going to be abandoned, you’ll never find me in the voting booth again. Good luck America.

Unless he is talking about hating the sin and loving the sinner.

How do you do that politically without giving into their sin.

Steele either renounces this position or he needs to be forced to resign.

Embracing the issues of your political enemy is wrong headed and serves no good purpose.

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers."

Does the GOP “reach out” to these groups by supporting FOCA and homosexual marriages?

Oh Brother! . . not this again. I’m so sick of republicans. Other than Palin, I can’t stand the deceitful big tent McCainiacs. Call me a constitutionalist or whatever but don’t associate me with RINOS and Godless democrats. Pro-murder people and proud degenerates belong in the democratic party, not any party of mine!

Sure we can reach out and be polite; but we should not change our pro life or anti gay marriage positions.

The problem with Steele’s pronouncement is that it will drive away social conservatives....who are the strongest voting bloc

You do not win elections by driving away your strongest voting bloc....you win on core principles

If you truly want to bring in non-traditional Republicans....you do that with a commitment for lower taxes and job creation. In 2010 and 2012 those will be key issues.

Well, that’s disappointing. But we’ll see what happens. It’s tough to tell with the media landscape being what it is today, whether people are actually saying what they mean or have to curb their words so they’re not labeled Uncle Tom and such.

I believe what you’re saying, but I am going to wait and see what he does. If he starts pushing more of the same crap like we’ve seen over the last decade or more, then I dunno...maybe it’s time for me to pack up my interest in politics and get into fishing or something.

Your opinion is what caused pubs to walk the wilderness for 45 years (minority status) and you will be walking the wilderness for another 45 years. Try to get enough gays and baby murderers to replace the majority of the base of your party... and try to do without all of the $$$ we Conservatives have given. I am through with your pathetic party and its satanic weaknesses. I am no longer a member of the National republican party.

We have nothing, absolutely nothing, to offer these people that the DEMS don’t already give them.

They will continue to lose until they return to conservative values. Period.

I’m OUT !!

I think there is a solution here- all these issues are not national, they go back to the States.

The GOP should adopt one single campaigm plank– wrest all this corrupt, centralized power out of Moscow on the Potomac, and give it back to the States where it belongs. Now, the person who disagrees with that is a real political enemy.

As long as voters agree with me on that one plank- they’re my national allies——
