Border agents could leave prison within days

Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos could be eligible to leave federal prison within days – though their official release date is still set for March 20, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons has confirmed.

BOP spokeswoman Traci Billingsley told WND that inmates may serve their sentences in arranged living facilities or home confinement before they are given their full freedom.

"On their release date, all Bureau of Prisons inmates are generally released from one of three places," she said. "They're either released from an institution, a residential reentry center (halfway house) or they're released from home confinement."

Prison records still list the official release date for the two agents as March 20, and former President George Bush's last-minute commutation of their sentences requires them to remain under supervision until that date. However, there is still a possibility the agents could serve out their sentences from home.

My personal feeling is that they should have had a full pardon, with their records expunged...but...to be out of that hell-hole at least, well, it’s SOMETHING...

Yes, Pres. Bush finally came to his senses on this one and commuted their sentences. They never should have suffered for that drug-dealing illegal alien being wounded by them in the butt. It would have made more sense if they had shot that creep dead, because of the lives he’s ruining with his drug deals.

Bush did not want the continued imprisonment to be part of his Legacy.

Can anyone who knows please tell me why they have to wait two months i.e. March 20 to get out.

Why were they not released the very next day?

What’s with the delay? Why not let them go immediately?

There is only one explanation: Bush's petulance.

Good news for both...although they should have never been charged in the first place

Their fraudulent conviction will always be a stain on Bush’s record...quite frankly it was one of the worst forms of treason I have ever seen.

I hope that they will finally get a chance to tell their side of the story. Too many so-called conservative talk radio hosts supported their conviction...which was quite disturbing (except for Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs)

well said Warrior.... and what about some of our fellow FReepers here who were strongly against these two men getting out? really makes ya wonder. no way 10 years in the jug for what they were ‘accused’ of doing. illegal lovers stick together I guess or maybe those FReepers who supported the incareration just don’t have enough years on the planet to know how things work.

Thanks for the ping :)

This still makes me heartsick, though. Every time I see a Border Patrol car on the freeway or driving on the streets, I wonder why bother? If they do their job, they may end up in jail.

I imagine that crosses their minds as well. ((sigh))

Commuted, not pardoned. Still convicted felons with all that stain brings.

"Why were they not released the very next day?" "There is only one explanation: Bush's petulance." Your attack of BDS notwithstanding, every article I have seen seems to indicate that it has something to do with the prison system or their rules. I'm just looking for the real reason from someone who knows the real reason.
