Frustrated Senate Democratic leaders dispensed with calls for bipartisanship on the stimulus package Thursday, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid saying that he won't let anyone "hold the president of the United States hostage."
President Barack Obama had once hoped to have the package pass with substantial Republican support. But Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that's now a distant memory."
"So far," he said, bipartisanship "isn't working."
But in an interview with Politico, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said that the Democrats - not the Republicans - have made a mockery of bipartisanship.
Senators are in a panic this bill is stinking up the place, Graham said then accused Obama of being AWOL in the stimulus discussions.

"So far," he said, bipartisanship "isn't working." This gigantic pork bill is a world record for deficit spending, consists exclusively of wasteful liberal spending, and the liberals are complaining that they can't get "bipartisan" support? They are even more stupid than I thought. The bill could get bipartisan support if they chopped it down to reasonable tax cuts, plus maybe a couple billion dollars in carefully-targeted spending. I'd like it better with no new spending, but that's a bipartisan gesture. What they want is absolute submission, and they're crying because they can't get that, not even from McCain (so far).

They want the GOP to go for it to give them cover. Period.
They should be cutting spending and cutting taxes. Now that’s a stimulus.
The current plan is a dog’s meal.

So, bipartisanship isn't working because the Repubs aren't rolling over and playing dead? That's rich!
Remember, we have to do something, because Pelosi says 500 million Americans lose their jobs every month!
