Politico: Sen. Stabenow Wants Hearings On Radio 'Accountability'; Talks Fairness Doctrine
NewsBuster.org ^ | Seton Motley

UPDATE: We have been reminded that Senator Stabenow's husband, Thomas Athans, is the co-founder of the liberal TalkUSA Radio network and is now the Executive Vice-President of liberal Air America. Liberal talk radio has of course failed miserably every time it has been tried, all the while watching it's conservative counterpart's success soar.

Which might lead one to believe that Senator Stabenow, in addition to her zealous will to slam the fist of government down upon her opponents, has some business skin in the game as well. If you can't beat 'em, censor 'em.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael Calderone in today's Politico reports on the latest liberal politician -- Michigan Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow -- openly touting their intent to silence their talk radio opposition with a reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine.

"Whether it’s called the Fairness Standard (sic), whether it’s called something else – I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves."

Senator Stabenow was speaking on the air with liberal talk radio host Bill Press and to his eleven listeners nationwide. She insisted that she "think(s) it’s absolutely time to pass a standard" and indicated she had "already had some discussions with colleagues" about Fairness "Standard" hearings and that she "feel(s) like that’s gonna happen. Yep."

I'm in the language biz and I follow political cant closely. I've noticed that many Democrats, including their leader in the White House, are started to toss the word "accountability" around as they would a freshly aborted fetus.

As I said, it appears to be code for: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Didn’t her husband also get caught with a prostitute or something?

No, it is the code for “Go against me and I will destroy you.”

On one hand, it is rather interesting for me to watch the more liberal people I work with slowly wake up to what they did. But I am worried about the push back that is coming. Obama is getting more and more irrational, and is acting like he is just winging it all without any for thought.

That type of person in a position of power can do a lot of damage.

How about NPR?

NPR will always be in business...its run using tax dollars.

Actually, wouldn't the Fairness Doctrine be a major boost for XM/Sirius? Should we all start buying their stock? Now wouldn't that chap the libs' asses. All broadcast radio goes under when conservatives switch to satellite and we profit from it.

Breathtaking arrogance. Democrats think that they can ignore the first amendment for their own personal enrichment. Conservatives need to be gunning for this stupid b**** from now until her term ends.

NO ONE IS STOPPING THESE IDIOTS FROM HAVING THEIR SHARE OF TIME ON THE RADIO.

They can’t keep listeners so they want time on others to destroy the whole damn radio listening. I hope Rush and others come up with another way to get our messages out without the commie’s interference.

Guess we’ll have to take out the newspapers & commentaries with a Fairness Doc of our own for bias printing and propaganda, etc

Senator, When you are spending more time worrying about what I hear on talk radio than what your husband needs to hear from his wife, it is time for you to resign your job.

And, eliminating competition for his liberal radio network, through use of YOUR Senate position, will do nothing for his self esteem.
