O'Reilly gave up his radio show...

Mark Levin took over 3 to 6 spot from Al Rantel. That's good. When Rantel discusses illegal immigration, I don't mind listening to him. But, when Rantel starts to discuss Obama's economic policies, I switch the station. I find it hard to forget that Rantel voted for Obama...I am sure that Rantel feels the need to defend his vote for Obama...

I guess Rantel wasn't doing well against John & Ken on KFI. Hugh Hewitt is on the air at 3 PM as well. But, I don't think Hewitt beat Rantel in ratings... Hewitt has tendency to have a bunch of unknown people as guests...

I don't think McIntyre and Scarbough would have much success taking away listeners from Limbaugh... McIntyre has an annoying habit of trying be "fair", emphasizing that GOP is just as bad as DEMS. Sometimes I think that he is grasping at the straws...

It is nice to listen to Levin in the afternoon...But, I would still prefer Larry Elder. I guess KABC could't afford Elder any more.

I wonder what the real story is about Larry Elder’s departure from radio. He was very popular.

What’s the plan for midnight to five am?

He may have felt that it was beneath him to be bumped for Dodger games for months at a time. That would drive me crazy.

He’s a good guy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the air again on the West Coast.

I enjoyed listening to Al as I drove home from work, but I can’t listen to Levin; his voice is just too annoying. And Rantel can be annoying as well with his quasi-liberalism, at times he’s spot on (even on the economic issues) but then he turns right around and becomes wishy-washy. I was listening to him earlier today, it seems he’s going back to the hospital over the weekend and might not be on for another few weeks - hope he recovers soon!

Al Rantel used to be a favorite of mine. Now, there’s not much I can listen to him for. He’s anti Prop 8 and voted for Øbama. Same with McIntyre. Hannity is about the only thing KABC has going for it these days.

I used to work those hours, and the early morning radio shows can be real helpful for folks that do. Ray Briem did the midnight to five am show for many years on KABC. He and George Putnam were the first two to take Clinton to the wood shed in 1991. They pegged that guy right out of the box.

Ray Briem was a good host and Putnam was a guy I wished I had listened to more.

Before the internet I was confined to ancient means of communication.

Briem actually got some hours on ABC Talknet so I could hear him in the East when that network existed years ago.

Ray was a classy guy. Glad you got a chance to listen to him. His big band bumper music was great.

Putnam was quite interesting. He had a long career in television and radio. He interviewed something like 10 to 12 presidents, among other things.

I miss them both.

Two shows for five hours each? McIntyre and Rantel are not THAT good. Actually, if I had to hear one KABC guy for 5 hours straight, I’d have chosen Larry Elder.

McIntyre has two funny conservatives on his show, that make it worth listening to (and certainly beating Obama Tuchas Boy Handel) - Rob Mirenko and the Sports Princess. Those guys make me laugh before I even open my eyes in the morning.

If Mark Levin could rein in his screaming, driving with him is fine. He’s really good and bright and right on the issues. Then suddenly he’s screaming at either the mike or a hapless caller, and it sounds so infantile. He’s best friends with Rush, but Rush learned YEARS ago to treat callers with politeness. Also, Mark Levin yelling sounds like Groucho Marx having a seizure. It is not becoming to such a smart man.

Rantel was very catty when discussing his demotion to later hours in the evening. Still, he is getting five full hours. The pay has to be pretty good, no? I am very sorry he’s going back to the hospital — I really do wish him well. I have always liked him, though currently he is hoping Obama’s plan works, and saying that to not support it is really suicidal for us all, which is not the American way. We do need to fight for what’s right. He did not have to vote for either Obama OR McCain. There is no moral high ground in voting for someone who is worse than the one you promised never to vote for. But get well, Al.

I loved McIntyre when he hosted the early morning red-eye radio on 790 a few years ago, but when he switched to the primetime morning slot something changed and he got wishy washy. Rantel seemed to do the same thing. When he came to KABC he was really in line with my views, but now he disses those I like, such as Ann Coulter, more often than the Democrats.

Doug was good on Red Eye, but it’s become clear that he adjusts his views to his audience. Maybe a role model for the “phony conservative hosts” that Hannity is always talking about.

Don’t know what’s up with Al. He was great before he got sick.

Bring back Ray Briem. Remember those all nighters with Larry Nichols and Terry Reed?

Move up the dial to Apple 970, John Gibson comes on after Dr. Laura, 12-3. He’s great!

Elder is better than anyone on that line-up. Also, he would do some local LA issues, which they won’t get from Levin.

Rantel and McIntyre voted no on Prop8...like Elder.
The problem I have with Rantel and McIntyre is that they voted for Obama. They consider themselves to be “fiscally conservative”.
