THE GANG THREAT Get Educated
FBI ^ | FEB. 6, 2009 | FBI

Posted on 02/07/2009 7:29:01 AM PST by AuntB

Gangs are morphing, multiplying, and migrating—entrenching themselves not just in our inner cites but increasingly in our ever-sprawling suburbs and wide-open rural spaces.

In some communities, they are responsible for as much as a staggering 80 percent of all crimes. They are selling drugs to your kids, shooting up your neighborhoods, invading your homes, robbing your banks and stores, stealing your identities and money, and sowing plenty of fear and violence along the way.

There are gangs in the military…gangs in prison…gangs all over the Internet (recruiting, communicating, intimidating)…gangs on Native American reservations…and gangs on motorcycles roving the countryside. More and more women are joining gangs, too, sometimes leading their own subsets of larger criminal groups.

At last count (this past September), our nation had at least 20,000 gangs with at least one million total members from coast to coast.

These conclusions—and many more—are all part of the just released National Gang Threat Assessment 2009.

Now matter how you slice it—locally, regionally, nationally—it’s a sobering portrait. And well worth reading for its insights, statistics, and predictions…whether you are a law enforcement professional, a community leader, an educator, a social services provider, or just a concerned citizen.

Mouse over each gang to learn more about them. And see the full report for more details.

The report is based on law enforcement’s collective intelligence—the product specifically of the National Gang Intelligence Center, the National Drug Intelligence Center, and a host of other local, state, and federal agencies.

Besides contributing to this report, we in the FBI—working with our partners more closely than ever—continue to put a lot of time, energy, and resources into tackling the growing gang threat. That includes:

* Synthesizing information on gangs from around the nation and even from around the globe (largely through the National Gang Intelligence Center) and pushing that out as intelligence assessments to our law enforcement partners to help them make cases and get a better handle on local threats;

* Leading the multi-agency MS-13 National Gang Task Force, which coordinates investigations and prosecutions of this extremely violent gang, including with law enforcement officials in Central America, its birthplace overseas;

* Taking part in the Department of Justice’s National Gang Targeting Enforcement and Coordination Center, or GangTECC, a task force that looks for ways to make the most impact through multi-jurisdictional investigations involving federal law enforcement; and

* Putting boots on the ground, so speak—hundreds of highly trained special agents nationwide who work to dismantle gangs from the top down through more than 200 multi-agency Safe Streets Task Forces, including about 150 that specifically target gangs.

Of course, we need your help. Please report crimes and potential criminal activity to us. Please be alert to common gang warning signs in your children and in your neighborhoods. And please get involved and stay involved in anti-gang activities and proactive outreach initiatives in your community.

There are also gangs in the US Senate who do their own form of violence.

The bad news is that we are becoming Brazil.

The good news is that, like Brazil, even the Mahometan savages won’t want anything to do with us.

Too much MTV around the world.

Just came back from the Island of St. Kitts which use to be one of the few “safe” places in the world.

Now they tell you not to go out in the city of Basterre because more than likely you won't make it out because of gangs.

Not pointing fingers, but IMHO there is too much bling, bang and gang promotion on TV that makes these kids think they deserve everything they see on TV.

If Al Gore believes in global warming eliminate satellite dishes from the “hoods” around the world. It will save more lives than installing a fricking sun panel in Jamaica.

JMHO.

“There are also gangs in the US Senate who do their own form of violence.”

You’re right. That’s the more extreme danger.

Gang graffiti 2 blocks from our house IN TOWN and the mayor says, “we don’t have gangs here in town, they’re out in the county.”

Maybe this Nov he’ll be voted out.

Here’s another article today about Mexico and Meth. The other day someone here told me that only white USA citizens are involved with the production of Meth.

Valley agents conduct largest meth seizure in Border Patrol history
Ana Ley
February 6, 2009 - 8:37PM

FALFURRIAS — U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Falfurrias checkpoint conducted the biggest methamphetamine seizure in the agency’s history last week, officials said.

The massive 312-pound stash is larger than the combined total of every meth seizure for the agency’s Rio Grande Valley Sector last year, said Border Patrol spokesman John Lopez. Agents in the Valley sector seized about 220 pounds of meth in 2008.

A Border Patrol dog sniffed out the drugs hidden within a truckload of grapefruit on Jan. 31. The tractor-trailer’s driver and passenger, who could not be immediately identified Friday evening, are in the custody of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Both are U.S. citizens.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $10 million, or about $32,000 per pound.

Meth seizures are rare in the Valley. The last major bust here was in June, when police found 211 pounds of the stimulant inside a McAllen home.

Along the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities seized about 4,426 pounds of meth in 2008, according to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Justice. Nationwide, officials seized about 13,966 pounds.

Meth is a powerful synthetic stimulant that can be smoked, snorted, injected or ingested orally. It is manufactured from decongestants that contain the substance pseudoephedrine. Meth is smuggled in smaller quantities than other drugs because only a tiny amount is needed to get high.

Last year, authorities discovered about 2,584 meth labs in the country, according to DOJ statistics.

We have gangs because we tolerate them and really don’t understand their threat. We don’t need a war on drugs. We need a war on gangs.

I endorse that. MTV and hip-hop culture drives most of the gangsta culture amongst the youth in New Zealand. I wish it were declared contraband.

(And no, I do not care about Free Speech in that particular case.)

You may be surprised how many South Auckland Maori and Samoan kids can talk with a genuine Compton gangsta accent.

We have gangstas here who do the “Crips” and the “Bloods”. We have gangstas doing the “Latin Disciple Kings” — fairly poorly I might add. And we had some gangstas attempt to set up an “MS-13”.

It all drives youth crime here in New Zealand. And its a serious problem because they are violent little beggars and they are armed to the teeth.

All of that on top of the long-standing well-established New Zealand motorcycle gangs, which were always dangerous and never a good idea to meddle with.

When we have organizations like “National Gang Threat Assessment 2009”, this should tell us something. Last I heard, there were over 70,000 gang members in Los Angeles area. There were 250 police assigned to police them. Does this make sense? We need the National Guard in places like that. If not the Guard, then who?

But, see, if all of us law abiding citizens give up our weapons, all those gangs will know we love them, and they will follow our direction.

Then everyone will be peaceful and happy.

Ahhhhhh.....

(BIG GRIN!!!) It might interest that person to know that New Zealand has the highest per-capita production and use of P-Methamphetamine in the world. Most of it is produced right here, in West Auckland where I live. Much of it is used onshore, but it also gets exported elsewhere.

The precursor ingredients are imported primarily from China by Chinese nationals, and on-sold to gangstas who produce the P-Methamphetamine: these are primarily Maori and Samoans, but there are also a few Caucasians.

I became a Guardian Angel in New Zealand as a response to the growing P-Methamphetamine problem in my city. My story is here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1891248/posts

Meth seizures at the border used to be rare.

In CA at least the meth trade used to be controlled by biker gangs - i.e. Caucasian refuse types.

Since they changed the formulation of antihistamines in the US to remove the chemicals used as the basis for meth the manufacturing has moved south of the border. The Mexican narcotraficantes have taken over the trade from what I read.

If it makes their supply chain more complicated and drives up the price it may save some lives in the long run. Or it may be just another industry we have outsourced.

Yet ANOTHER reason CCW needs to be PROMOTED and ENCOURAGED in EVERY state, and reciprocity the NORM ,not the exception.

Buy more guns, ammunition, magazines, etc. and prepare for the worst.

Also, ALL of us (United we stand...) need to IGNORE further restrictions on our 2nd Amendment RIGHTS, so we can not only protect ourselves against the government tyranny that is just around the corner, but also against criminal gangs which appear to be coddled by scumbag liberal judges, and other weak laws and law enforcement.

WE need to take responsibility for our own defense, and not depend on government (sure, they'll show up AFTER the fact to draw the white chalk lines) to protect us in our communities.

Thank GOD for some of our politicians instituting "Castle Doctrine" laws in many of our states.

We need more laws that respect and recognize law-abiding citizens RIGHTS, and severely punish gang members and other criminals.

KILL 'EM ALL - LET GOD SORT IT OUT.

If you can afford it, you might want to move your family into one of those neighborhoods that has a wall around it and a guard at the gate.

Most in this country either don’t care about this problem or are feel impotent to do anything to protect themselves. As a result, the good people get outvoted. In my opinion, it’s time for the good people to balkanize.

For myself, I moved to the country. Lots o’pickups, lots o’guns, lots o’folks watching what cars go by on this dead-end road, lots o’dogs barking at strangers - strangers who’d be scared of what they might run into sneaking around out here. They’d feel safer doing their evil deeds in the city. And that suits us just fine.

The only way to “dismantle” gangs is, I am sorry to say, the Red Chinese way. Give them 60 seconds to make peace with whatever higher power they might believe in, then a 9mm or .45 behind the right ear. Leave them lying whereever they fall. Others might learn from that. I don’t worry about civil rights for non citizens and those citizens that would do this crap (gang bangers) aren’t getting any sympathy from me either.
