PRIVATE school: $32,000 a year per student.
Mortgage: $96,000 a year.
Co-op maintenance fee: $96,000 a year.
Nanny: $45,000 a year.
We are already at $269,000, and we havent even gotten to taxes yet.
Five hundred thousand dollars the amount President Obama wants to set as the top pay for banking executives whose firms accept government bailout money seems like a lot, and it is a lot. To many people in many places, it is a princely sum to live on. But in the neighborhoods of New York City and its suburban enclaves where successful bankers live, half a million a year can go very fast.

Hollywood studios are getting a tax break especially for them in this porkulus bill. So that means their salaries should be limited. Plus..GE..they should not be paying big star salaries with Govt money. Then salary cap away.
$125 to $250 to tutor kids?? Geeze, I got my kids into college (real college) prior to age 15 and I didnt pay anyone a dime. But I did make a point of teaching my kids reading and math when they were young.Paying a tutor is easier than paying attention to you kids. More time to spend with the mistress/boy toy or hanging out in the hamptons. There have got to be people willing to tutor for a bit under $125 per hour. Its not very hard to do.
If :
1) You are a single parent who is a banker.
2) You have two incomes ( are we up to $500,000 X 2= 1,000,000 Now?).
3) You are a spoiled lib, who has children as trophies, and not a real parent.
By the way where is the limo expense (sarc)?
The poverty level in most of this country is $42,000, less than the Nanny.
Try the Nanny's salary with seven children, and home schooling. its do able.
No money for the voters. It’s only for the select few including the Obamas. In other words; it’s a ripoff for the taxpayer.
Not that I have a lot of pity for NY bankers, but *someone* didn’t think any of this through. The salary/perks limitation was done for PR purposes: it sounds good to the welfare queens and others suffering class envy who can’t even imagine making $50K/year much less $500K.
This is coming from a man who just landed a job paying $400K a year, and wo lives expense-free in a fully staffed mansion, with private limo, helicopter and jetm with a nice country retreat a short copter ride away.
Congress berated the auto execs for flying to DC in private jets, but the House Speaker insisted on a very large jet to fly her and her entourage from CA to DC every week ... also at taxpayer expense.
There are surely greedy, manipulative hustlers on Wall & Broad ... but they are no worse than the habitants of Capitol Hill.
Of course, if you cap pay at $500k, few will be paying those prices for school, nannies, housing in NYC!
Keep them out of Florida!
Since most NBA & NFL teams play in government subsidized facilities, does this rule apply to the players and coaches?
A family living in Chicago's Hyde Park with a family income of $991,296(2006 IRS return) can find it difficult to pay for their daughter's piano and dance lessons.
Krap on that. No kids in my family and public school costs me big bucks every year!
Krap on that. No kids in my family and public school costs me big bucks every year!Fair enough,
Public School: Already in your taxes
STOP WHINING!
Poor people are paying taxes to bail out the wealthy.
For companies that feel the $500K salary cap is government over-reaching and isn’t fair there is an easy solution.
Don’t take the bailout money!
What’s that?
You say without the bailout your mis-managed company will fail and then you won’t have any job at all?
HOT FLASH:
Unemployment benefits are much less than $500K and most of the peple bailing your company out make much less than that (much, much less).
So, what’s wrong with just fleeing New York? It will mean you got out before the next terrorist attack.
They all voted for O. Many Rats are now fleeing NYC to bring their left wing socialism to other areas.
“Paying a tutor is easier than paying attention to you kids.”
Of course, and we’ve all seen the results...but paying them that much??
I guess getting the right “tutor” is as much of a status symbol as getting the kid into the right college. Vastly overpaying for anything is something that I cannot comprehend, regardless of whether I have the money. Heck, I cannot even buy the wife jewelry, since I cannot independently verify its value.
Of course, and weve all seen the results...but paying them that much??True story, my manager was walking through an upscale shopping mall near our site and he walked by a upscale father and his daughter. She wanted to go into one of the teeny-bopper jewelry stores where they sell jewelry for $100 a pop. He said "no honey, let's go somewhere better" and took her to Neiman Marcus.I guess getting the right tutor is as much of a status symbol as getting the kid into the right college. “He said “no honey, let’s go somewhere better” and took her to Neiman Marcus.”
Yuck. Trophy kids, so sad for them.

In the 30s the city of Los Angeles set up checkpoints at the California border to turn back dust bowl refugees from Oklahoma. We here in Texas may have to soon do something similar.
My brother in law isn’t an executive. He makes a good living but that salary is eaten up by $20,000 a year in property taxes, two college tuitions, and regular up keep on a home. No vacations, no fancy cars, no high-tech toys.
