Specter to GOP: Don't push Pelosi too far (Wimp Alert)
Politico ^ | Glenn Thrush

Posted on 02/09/2009 11:39:16 AM PST by rightinthemiddle

Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter, one of three GOPers expected to cross the aisle on stimulus cloture, offers a Washington Post op-ed today in defense of the "Moderate's Bill" which cut about $100 billion from the House stimulus package.

His argument to Republicans: We've pushed Pelosi as far as she's willing to go -- and need to take this deal now.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the proposed cuts "do violence to what we are trying to do for the future," especially on education. Her objections are a warning to conservatives that more cuts would be unlikely to win House approval. They are also an admission of the high price that moderates have been able to extract for their support of stimulus legislation.

Like, if we say no, we'll never get a "stimulus" package?

The Democrats will just drop it?

What a tool.

“We’ve pushed Pelosi as far as she’s willing to go”

We haven’t pushed her out a window yet. I’d like to see that.

Earth to Specter, we want the bill to fail. He must be senile.

Specter needs to start asking another question: if this thing is so great for the country why doesn’t Pelosi just shut up, pass it, and take the credit?

What an imbicle.

If the Republicans have the testacles to stand together against this bill, the Dems won’t be able to blame them when it fails.

If they share the votes supporting it, they will get tarred by the Dems and the Dems will walk away from the blame.

I wonder if Specter ever played cards - or chess. The man is a disgrace. Maybe he’s afriad Pelosi will slap his face.

Arlen Sepcter is just one more reason the GOP has to go. Incumbents and candidates like him are representing the wrong party.

Expect this jackel and his two hyaena sisters, Collins and Snowe to do this for the next four years. Even Graham and McCain look good compared to these three scavengers.

What I can’t fathom, is that these three Republicans think they are smarter than approximately 210 others in the Senate and House. When you are the only one standing against something, you really need to think the issue out. I cannot fathom an honest person looking at this bill and coming away saying, “I really looked this over, and it’s a bill we can’t do without.”

1. Democrats throwing money at leftists
2. Virtually no stimulus included
3. Only a fraction to be spent right now
4. Infrastructure about 5%.

What is so appealing about this bill to these three people? Honestly, it boggles the mind.

Hey, Spector, you are a dufus. What we need to do right now is drop the whole thing in Pelosi’s lap and tell her she, Reid and Zero own it.

How stupid are the people in Pennsylvania?

He’s one of the reasons I donate directly to the candidate of choice and not some arm of the party.

Hey Specter - if you had to rely on the Democrat health care in the stimulus bill you are going to vote for - you would be dead!
