Posted on 02/10/2009 2:24:08 PM PST by rabscuttle385
The Senate today passed a massive $838 billion economic stimulus package while Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner gave only scant details on the next step of the financial bailout package.
Wall Street was not impressed as the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell sharply, down over 300 points by mid-afternoon.
Three Republican senators - Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania - joined with the Democratic majority in passing the stimulus package on a 61-37 vote.
The bill will now have to be reconciled with a House version that relied more on spending programs and less on tax cuts than the Senate bill. No Republicans voted on the bill in the House.
The three Republican senators who voted with the Democrats were promptly targeted by the National Republican Trust PAC. The political action committee said it would seek defeat Sen. Specter in the 2010 elections by financially backing his primary opponent.
Sen. Specter voted for the so-called stimulus bill, mortgaging the future of Pennsylvanias children and grandchildren said Scott Wheeler, executive director of the National Republican Trust PAC. This bill will do nothing to help the millions of Americans who need a job, want to buy a home, want to start a business in other words it will do nothing to really stimulate the economy. It will just line the pockets of liberal political hacks to whom the Democratic Party is beholden. Sen. Specter and other Republicans who voted for this travesty will be held accountable.
Geithner left unexplained many of the details on how he would proceed spending the remaining $350 billion of the $700 billion Troubled Asset Recovery Plan (TARP) started under President Bush.
The plan includes a new public-private partnership that would seek to unclog the credit markets by buying up toxic securities.
From left to right: U.S.S.A. Senators Susan "Pork Lover" Collins (RINO-Maine SSR), Olympia "Bipartisan This!" Snowe (RINO-Maine SSR), and "Snarlin'" Arlen Specter (RINO-Pennsylvania SSR).
I can’t tell them apart, they all look alike.
Note to Michale Steele:
Please advise Arlen Specter that he can expect no funds from the RNC for his re-election next year, as they will be spent campaigning for a conservative to replace him on the ticket.
Maybe Ira Einhorn has a few bucks from making license plates that he can spare...
Let’s just call them liberals and get it over with. The RINO tags don’t seem to bother them.
I agree. I am starting to think that, as a conservative, that I am a RINO.
They were liberals before this vote. The “moderate” label is bullcrap. They called EX-Republican fmr. Sen. Linc Chafee (whose voting record was literally identical to Hillary Clinton’s) a “Moderate”, when he was a Socialist.
These 3 cowards have insulted the foundational principles of the Republican party and of conserrvatism. They have crossed the rubicon and sold our children into slavery. They are not fit to be members of the Republican party.
“Lets just call them liberals “
More like common criminals.
I just made a $100 contribution to the National Republican Trust PAC. From now on, the RNC will not get any of my money. It will all go to PAC’s that are determined to oust RINO’s from Congress.
I bet Spector is planning to retire anyway!!
The Republican Trust has targeted Specter in the PA Primary next year. The email has gone out to GOPTRUST members. The place to go to help is goptrust.org
I will contribute campaign funds to whomever has a good chance of beating each one of these idiots, regardless of party affiliation. I’m not talking big bucks here, but my statement will have been made.
You know, what might be more effective is a conservative big-name running as a Democrat.
That’s what the Dhims do in Republican districts.
Find conservatives -— run them as Dhims. The morons pull the D lever.
The other two are just plain misguided.
“I bet Spector is planning to retire anyway!!”
Power-mongering statists never retire until they are infirm.
If he does, we should protest outside his house with rock music, sort of Noriega style.
I could never run as a Dem. I’m just not a good enough liar.
Too late... These 3 have their Billion from the Stimulus.
We need to track theirIRS payments .. They be Dodgin in the future.
And though the title to this article was promising,
Nothing will happen to these three.
Hell, Supreme court Justices voted for killing babies and nothing happened.
Just like our morons pulling the R lever.
They all sound moderate when running.
Think Webb and the like.
Heck Zero claimed he was for “small government” and “lower taxes.”
Head ‘em up an move ‘em out!
“The Senate today passed a massive $838 billion economic stimulus package....”
They did not.
They passed an historically abysmal government expansion package.
Gee who is editing Human Events these days?
I think Specter could be bumped off but I doubt the 2 dimwits from Maine are very worried. Collins has a long way to go before her next re-election.
We weren’t fooled. Unfortunately too many idiots were. And yet people still ask why I’m a Republican.
May I suggest some stress relief
Too funny! Specter failed as a sleezy defense attorney AND as a Republican. I've never liked the guy---Come on, Pennsylvania, let's get going and run new Conservative. I'll send money!!
I gave $100 too. I haven’t given to the RNC since the 2004 election. It just didn’t feel right.
Boy...this did. I need to do something besides read posts and feel helpless. I like that the PAC is targeting those three for replacement!
It's just so sickening to see the same weird crooked, liars decade after decade. I've been asking freepers for years to name ONE U.S.Senator that that they could say is a role model for their sons and daughters. There is never a answer.
I agree and when we start getting those envelopes for donations to the Repubican Party...earmark it for the defeat of Spector to start..and for riding the party of all RINOS or expect not one more cent.
One thing we as conservatives need to do is start now up front with the message that any and all recovery, if there is any in the next 1-3 years has NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the generational theft porkulus bill the fat piggys voted for.
ANY recovery will be because we, the AMERICAN PEOPLE will NOT be held under the filthy thumb of the Marxist Democrat party.
We have to start now, we have to start drilling our representatives to stay on that message. They need to state factually why that would be so. DeMint, McConnell, Pence, Gov. Sanford (whoever) absolutely need to start NOW repeating this is how ANY and ALL recovery will happen. It will happen INSPITE of the Marxists now in power. The American people will use whatever liberties are left at hand to innovate.
I’m going to start emailing party leadership tomorrow and start hammering them to start controlling the message for once. Get in front first, set the agenda and repeat... and repeat. We also need to keep calling, writing, e-mailing and faxing our disgust, keep the pressure up, we are NOT the followers. We are not playing their game. We are now the patriotic dissenters.
Ah.... we’re never gonna do it. Who am I fooling (from New Hampshire with two of the most pathetic Senators you could every imagine — Shaheen (dumb as a box of rocks) and Judd Gregg (what more needs to be said).
Add Kennedy to that list..How much has all the medines and treatments for his Terminal brain cancer cost the health care industry..oh wait.,..that is for us schmucks who get a bad news diagnosis..we are to go right to the La Brea Tar Pits and just hop in.
Collins and Specter and Snowe, Oh My!!!
Brings tears to my eyes....
Three RINOS - tears of frustration
1000 rounds of ammo - tears of the adult equivalent of I GOT A PONY!!!!
Washington DC shall henceforth be renamed Obamastan (pronounced oh-bah-mah-stahn), and we shall be known as the United Socialist States of North Amerika.
Now, let's go play "pin the
spine testicles on the RINO".
What connection between Einhorn (dirt bag murderer) and Specter?
Specter was Einhorn’s lawyer and managed to get bail for Einhorn on a murder charge, which was unheard of. Einhorn escaped to France, where he remained for about 20 years. Well, maybe not that long, but, you get the idea. Specter was also the DA in Phila, at one time.
It's been known for YEARS that those three are simply closet Democrats with an "R" next to their names on ballot. Gotta love the "now that they voted for the Stimlus, the party should not support them anymore" crowd. That's about..... oh.... ten years overdue, actually.
WHERE were the conservative activists last year when Collins was up for re-election? WHERE was the push to find a challenger for her in the primary? Conservatives have only themselves to blame for Collins being a rubber stamp for Obama for the next 4+ years. Collins faced absolutely no pressure to support the party base at election time. She regularly votes with the RATs on all kinds of major issues and gets a total pass from GOP voters in Maine, and now has six years to do whatever she wants. But that's okay, she's "electable", right?
Since many on FR seem to have have forgotten, here's a little reminder -- the "weak sisters" of the Senate Republicans -- the absolute WORST of the bunch (FAR more liberal than just a Norm Coleman type right-of-center Republican), were: 1) Specter 2) Collins 3) Snowe 4) Chafee 5) Jeffords. The latter two are gone now, and immediately ceased the farce of calling themselves "Republican" the moment they left office (Jeffords ceased pretending to be Republican shortly after he was re-elected). Both openly support Obama now.
But why have conservatives allowed the first three to infest the party for the last decade?
Copy and paste this little thread from 1999 until it sinks in with some conservatives:
Not one of the "bad" people on that list have ever "gone conservative" on any meaningful issue. They've been worthless forever and will remain worthless forever.
Spector, Collins and Snow are dirt.
One of them (hopefully only 1) has a wang.
