Free Talk Live host Ian Freeman of Keene, New Hampshire reports he and other spectators are briefly imprisoned inside a courtroom while awaiting a Derry man's arraignment. He says this kept them from witnessing an alleged excessive-force incident involving other baliffs.

That’s the screwy hat guy. He apparently got a bit roughed up for being a smartass.
Come see the violence inherent in the system!

What a strange story. I’ve been doing some bailiffing after retirement in our County Court at Law. I don’t see how forcing people to stay inside a courtroom is going to fly, legally... and WHY?? Somebody has an “authority” problem (bailiff?).
Our rules are very simple: Proper attire, no hats, caps, headcover, no electronics including cameras in the courtroom, very common sense, I’ve NEVER had any hassle over such a thing. We have security in the hallway, no big deal. Something’s fishy in NH looks like.
You can’t keep people from talking about such an incident. Also, I would be curious about security cameras, how about a subpoena for the tape/CD? Has the world gone nuts? Are we in a parallel universe?
I'd submit that it if there was a disturbance in the hallway, it would by your duty to secure the door to the courtroom. Why don't you ask your judge if he would want you to keep the disturbance out of his courtroom.
Or as in the case here, if a gang member was involved in a disturbance in the hall, would you let the gang members already in the courtroom join in?
I went back and reviewed the youtube video, apparently “Charlie” is kind of the pivot point on this incident, over the “policy on wearing hats”. Well, says something in itself, “Charlie” may have been obnoxious, loud and defiant over [traditional] court rules.
Then, there’s the phony “reporter” being told no cameras (same rule as we have, which means, translated, NO CAMERAS). And he spoke of a “self-made” ID on a lanyard (we can spot than nonsense in a heartbeat), there again our hall security team would phone in for verification on this guy’s ID if there was a doubt. Then again, I may be assuming too much that there would/should be other security in the hall. The fracas was taking place in the hall apparently, that’s why I was puzzled about lack of other security. No, if there’s a problem in the hall, we would secure the courtroom without a doubt, I don’t have any problem with that, I had a hard time (from the report) sorting out who’s doing what.
You would be amazed (but maybe not) how people present themselves for higher courts, pretty pathetic. I also have to occasionally remove them for improper behavior (boyfriend/girlfriend lounging on each other) all this while one or the other’s future is in the balance. I’m in Texas and want you to know that NO silliness or untoward behavior is allowed, at least in our little rural county. Well NH is livening up.
