I had lunch with Owen’s two years ago in his executive dining room and he seems like a decent person. His wife left him years ago and he ended up raising his girls.
I was talking to our account manager prior to the general election complaining about Obama. He stated that Owen’s and company had discussions with O’s camp and they assured CAT that they would be “business friendly”. Payback time I’m sure.

All 22,000? Even if it did happen, what happens when the money runs out?
Wish someone would ask that question.

As Lenin (and probably Saul Alinsky, Stalin, etc) used to say, "one death is a tragedy, 20 million is a statistic". This bill will put millions of people out of work in due time.
Obama's chief argument for passing this bill:

Not exactly most folks’ idea of a daily driver. Would you go for the double barreled version?

Jim Owens is a very decent intelligent guy. He has a fiduciary responsibility to respond to the President with moderate comments. It is not in the interest of shareholders to rock the boat. But, I also know that Cat managers believe that you have to cut jobs early in a down cycle.
They also had a long term strategy to eliminate UAW jobs by moving production out of Illinois. They just did that with the small engine plant move to Texas.

Either Obama is lying, or Catepillars CEO is lying. I choose answer C. Both are lying.

Absolutely. With the push-pull option.

I think ALL of you are missing the point.
Gubment and gubment contractors will be the only entities able to AFFORD to buy CAT products that meet the 2010 diesel emmission standards!

that’s just one of the ‘social’ cards being played....many many more in the deck left to play and hundreds already on the table, however, the cameras are off.

That is the lesson for today.
If you are not on the winning side in a war, civil or otherwise, you are a loser and have to take it. I think the CEO was as honest, without being stupid, as he could be and simply saying “some”. Of course, that was just first step by the fascist-socialists. It worked in Germany and in Italy.
With no responsible and honest main stream press, the people don’t even know they are being screwed until it is too late.

Not only is this stupid, but should a corporate executive be giving this information out to anyone? (except possibly stockholders)

The company I work for will no longer be purchasing product manufactured by CAT, that’s good news for our foreign suppliers. Filthy socialist hack!
