Leave it to a brainy Indian to come up with the cheapest and surest way to stimulate our economy: immigration.

While I think President Obama has been doing his best to keep the worst protectionist impulses in Congress out of his stimulus plan, the U.S. Senate unfortunately voted on Feb. 6 to restrict banks and other financial institutions that receive taxpayer bailout money from hiring high-skilled immigrants on temporary work permits known as H-1B visas.

More than 1 million immigrants became new U.S. citizens just last year. It didn't seem to help much.
Too many of these types of immigrants might vote Republican/conservative. The Dems would prefer to flood the country with ignorant, unskilled, socialistically-inclined illegal aliens from other ethnic groups to add to their base.
Corporate America will not go for that nor the US Chamber of Commerce. What!! Import entrepreneurs that may create future competitors, no way. However if these asians are willing to come as H-1B workers to undercut the salary of American workers and increase the profit margin of the corporate masters, that will be OK.

If there were enough jobs that paid enough to Americans, those homes wouldn't be standing empty. Lots of Americans have been replaced by immigrants (H1=B) for salary reasons. Those immigrants do not make enough money to buy those homes - and they are supposedly better educated and more industrious than Americans.

The Chamber of Commerce is one of the biggest cheap labor advocates there is. They never met a visa or amnesty they don’t love. With people like Grover Norquist on their board, that’s what you get.
Interesting. I always thought Detroit could have solved a lot of it's problems with vacant housing and massive population loss by moving to accomodate, even incentivize, foreign immigrants to move into the City of Detroit.
Of course, that solution would never be adopted because black Detroiters so highly value their political control of the city that they would not risk dilution of that control under any circumstances.

Our booming housing building industry was not a real sustainable industry. It was a phony paper foreign debt based bubble requiring high levels of legal immigration (to buy the houses) and illegal immigration (to build the houses.) It was funded by massive public and private foreign debt. But the new immigrants all needed jobs so it could not sustain itself indefinitely. The bailout bails out foreign investors so they continue to loan us money. It was a Ponzi scheme that led to Pelosi/Obama our worse nightmare.
Bush pro-illegal and pro-massive legal immigration and I did not understand why until recently(this is a wakeup call to me). He actually thought that his paper asset bubble was real economic growth.
