N. Korea disputes military recruit claims

Published: Jan. 25, 2009 at 11:01 AM

PYONGYANG, North Korea, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- North Korea says U.S. claims that many of its potential military recruits are unfit for service is a "cock-and-bull story."

A recent U.S. National Intelligence Commission report claiming that 1990s famines in the North have rendered many potential soldiers born during the period with "cognitive deficiencies" drew an angry official response from Pyongyang Saturday, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

"They floated the cock-and-bull story," said an official statement broadcast by the official Korean Central News Agency. "It is an open secret that the ill-famed intelligence and plot-breeding institutions of the U.S., including the CIA, are hell-bent on releasing false reports about its hostile countries."

Good Post. It's absolutely true. Also the N Korean soldiers average two inches shorter and about 15 pounds lighter. That's based on the uniform sizes they make for their army.

Goes to my point that the N Koreans are paper tigers.

I’ve been anticipating this for quite some time.

The N Koreans born in the early nineties should be coming on line about now. Human beings are horribly vulnerable to nutritional deficiencies in the first year-and-a-half of life, including maternal malnutrition in the womb. I haven’t found anything that gives exact figures although things like Vitamin A, Iodine and protein deficiencies by themselves are known to cause retardation.

Physical stature is a bit different. I read that human beings get exactly three adolescent growth spurts per person, and if one happens to be starving or seriously ill at the time one goes off you simply miss out on that growth.

I have always figured if NK attacked SK, the Army would go south as ordered and the country would starve behind them.

Their soldiers are a bit on the small and squirrely side.
