Teacher accused of prostitution won't resign Friday, February 13, 2009 3:56 PM By Holly Zachariah THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
* Audio of an undercover sheriff's officer negotiating a deal for sex with the suspect. NOTE: This clip contains explicit content.
BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio - A woman advertised online that she needed help paying her bills so she was looking for someone - a man or a woman, she didn't care - who would pay her for sex.
The ad on the "casual encounters" section of the popular Web site Craigslist described her as a 35-year-old, bisexual professional female with blond hair, brown eyes and "very innocent." The woman went into detail about her body, included pictures and offered to "strip, dance or just hold you."
Amber Carter, a fourth-grade teacher with a spotless 13-year record with Bellefontaine schools, has admitted to detectives that she posted the ad and used a school computer to send an undercover sheriff's sergeant e-mails arranging a meeting, according to Logan County sheriff's office records.
Carter was arrested Tuesday in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel after she took $50 from an undercover informant in exchange for oral sex. In e-mails sent to an undercover sheriff's sergeant posing as an interested customer in the days before the sting, Carter wrote that intercourse would cost $100, according to copies of the e-mails.
She has been charged with prostitution, a misdemeanor, and unauthorized use of property, a fifth-degree felony. She is due in Bellefontaine Municipal Court Thursday.
According to sheriff's office reports, Carter sent one e-mail at 1:02 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.: "I am at work and didn't get a chance to respond until now." Another message is sent at 9:07 a.m. Monday, well after school began for the day. She offers sex and suggests a time. There were 24 e-mails exchanged in all.
On Tuesday, Carter took a half-day of sick leave and left work early. She was arrested at 12:05 p.m.
According to a recording of the meeting, Carter tells the man she only has 45 minutes because she has to pick up her son and take him to the doctor. Authorities say Carter has one young son and that Children's Services has been provided a copy of the criminal case.
Detectives went to Western Intermediate School Tuesday afternoon and seized Carter's computer. Superintendent Larry Anderson immediately placed her on paid administrative leave. The district's lawyers are handling the matter now, and have suggested to Carter that she resign, Anderson said yesterday. She has not. She continues to draw her $56,000 annual salary.
The school board may meet next week to discuss its options, Anderson said. He said Carter could be fired now: "But Constitutional rights and due process come into play so the lawyers are proceeding properly."
No one has answered the phone or the door at Carter's home in several attempts to reach her this week.
The case began Feb. 4, when Sheriff Andy Smith received an anonymous e-mail saying that a local woman was advertising sex services online.
The sheriff assigned the case to Sgt. Ryan Furlong, who initiated contact with the advertiser.
Furlong said they suspect Carter has been doing this awhile.
"She was calm, cool and collected in that hotel parking lot. Not nervous at all," he said. "This wasn't her first time."
Still Guilty!

Ohio teacher ping!
With a face like that the ecomy must be real bad for red light women patrons
If she’s tenured.....they’ll never get rid of her.
This thread is worthwhile without pictures.
This thread is worthless because it HAS a picture!
Ewww.
So guilty they oughta throw the book at her—oh, wait, looks like they already did...
Tenure won't protect her from the felony charge (for misuse of the school computer.)
LMAO!!!!
Good one!
Yeah, the whole law library.
After seeing the picture, I can at least understand why she felt she had to keep her options open (M/F. But even so...
Including the book cases.

Is anyone else troubled by the police resources expended in these sting operations?
It is almost impossible to fire a female public school teacher. More able to fire a guy. VERY difficult to fire a female teacher.
Another example of true bravery in law enforcement.
There are more pressing needs, I agree.
Nope. They didn’t use up much resources, and they nabbed a prostitute. She’ll be going up on charges. Works for me. A couple dozen emails and a couple officers to run a quick sting is hardly shocking. It’s SOP.
