Read the text and watch the video carefully. They got just what was advertised - an Obama image on existing coins. Maybe low quality, but that’s a chance you take when you buy sight unseen.

A very clever operation, in my opinion.

If an Obama supporter is getting ripped of that's a good thing! The symbolism of a cheap, phony, fraud is perfect they should see their messiah in there somewhere.

Do you believe, as I do, that the average Dim voter had no idea what they were voting for? Or, equally no idea what happened yesterday? You think we will start hearing questions from dumb Dims about the new package? Yep, I do.

They are all going to want to be bailed out by The Messiah for their mistake. So we will wind up paying for it.

A few years ago, the Franklin Mint created Silver Surfer coins (to promote the movie) by plastering decals over the reverse of the California quarters and released them into circulation. As I recall, the US Mint jumped all over them. Wish that could happen here - but it won’t...

coin ripoff

>>Most Obama coins being sold are unofficial marketing ploys. The Obama coin depicted here was made in a special, private, limited edition of 300 for party supporters.

>>One of the most heavily marketed types of Obama coins are the Obama Inaugural Dollars. The ads for these coins have slick TV and Web videos showing emotion-laden footage of Obama walking among crowds of ordinary Americans, and speaking to flag-waving crowds. One ad claims that you can "own a piece of American History" and then goes to incorrectly identify a normal, circulating Presidential Dollar as a "Presidential Inaugural Dollar." These Obama coins are being sold for prices ranging from $9.95 plus shipping (total: $14.90) to nearly $30 each, and all they really are is defaced Presidential Dollars that you can get for $1 at the bank!

Most of the Obama coins which use a Presidential Dollar for the host coin are colorized through the application of a decal, which is permanently fused to the coin's surface using a hot glue process. In doing so, these marketers are wiping out the faces of our nation's Founding Fathers and placing their garish colorized designs on our U.S. legal tender coinage. The result is a coin that is numismatically worthless; in other words, these colorized Obama coins will never have any value to coin collectors as collectible Presidential Dollars because the original surfaces of the coins have been destroyed by the colorization process.

The Boston Herald, which is (slightly) to the right of the rival Globe, printed out a whole bunch of commemorative
Obama issues. The publisher noticed how many papers were
sold the day after the election and figured he’d cash in.
I think they may still have quite a few of these left but
who knows

I have a cousin who I think I talked out of buying sets of these coins as collectors items. Unfortunately he’s a schizophrenic, and is of the belief that he’s got a lot of money in coins he’s collected over the years. While he does have a handful of collectible coins (some indian head nickles, wheat pennies, and silver quarters and half dollars), they’re in such bad condition that there’s nothing special about them. The vast majority of his coins are simply worth face value. I’ve tried to convince him of the fact, including going to his house with a book on collectible coin values, but he accused me of trying to steal his coins from him, with a book that was supposed to rip him off. So I convinced him to let us simply document some of his coins, then go to a library to figure out their value. He did finally admit that his “coin collection” wasn’t worth what he thought it was, but I think that he still doesn’t believe that his coins aren’t worth a fortune... It’s hard to tell with him. As a defensive measure (from a mother and aunts who would “henpeck” the hell out of him) he tends to lie alot, telling people what he thinks they want to hear, so that they’ll leave him alone.

He honestly believed that by buying a few sets of those coins, he’d be “set for life.” I think I talked him out of it, but I don’t know for sure.

He did vote for Obama... His reason? “I’m voting for whoever’s going to give me free healthcare.”

Mark

When first I saw these commercials I chalked it up to the crazy cult of personality that I once associated only with 3rd world backward countries but is apparently quite prevalent in the US. Now I realize that a smart entrepreneur saw the millions of these voters in the US and a light bulb went off in his head. He must have seen that if millions are so gullible, quite a few of them would also be an easy mark for a shiny coin to celebrate their leader. He was right—he must be having a great laugh.

Of course, it could all be just wishful thinking on my part.

I don’t care about Obama at all but these folks were ripped off bad. The owner of the company should be in jail for fraud.
