Obama plans campaign more to pressure Republicans in Congress rather than win their loyalty,

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama plans to travel and campaign more to pressure Republicans in Congress rather than trying to win their loyalty, sources say.

Now that a mammoth, $787 billion economic stimulus bill has been approved virtually without Republican support, White House advisers have determined that Capitol Hill horse-trading with GOP opponents wasn't successful and that Obama should instead tap his immense popularity and public salesmanship skills to push legislation in the future, the Washington publication Politico reported Saturday.

"We've got to get him out of that White House," a unnamed top White House adviser said, listing "some very valuable lessons" learned from the stimulus fight. "He's happier, he's better, he's more effective. The inside game is important, but it's actually not where the success of his presidency is going to come."

Obama plans to use the tactic in upcoming pushes to pass New Deal-style plans to rescue struggling homeowners and rewrite regulations on the financial markets, plus a budget proposal that lays the groundwork for sweeping healthcare reform, Politico said.

"Immensely popular?" If he really was THAT popular, most Republicans would have been afraid to vote against Zero. The MSM must be daydreaming!

Let 0bama see what he can manage solely with his ‘immense popularity’. But Republicans have to make sure they are heard by the people.

What horse trading? Pelosi, Reid and their close advisors wrote the bill. All the Republicans got was a nice meal with Obama and pressure to support the Dems' bill. What trading was there?

Exactly. Rush offered to meet Obama half way. The Democrats weren't interested. They wrote the bill, they invited no Republican input, they limited debate on it and they passed it on a nearly party-line vote! In what universe did the Democrats solicit bi-partisanship? They want to crush the GOP, not work together for the good of the country. Today's Democrats are the most hyper-partisan we've seen in a generation.

Bill clinton set the model for starting campaigns early, and for perpetual fundraising. But not even clinton started campaigning before he’d been in office for a month.

FREEPER challenge:

Be the first freeper to ask the messiah where was he born on live TV.

If we can get that question out there 2-3 times people will start to wonder.

alternate would be “show us you birth certificate”.

The hard part of the challenge is that they screen his questions. So you may have to pretend to be homeless to get to ask a question of “the one”.

I’m happy for you Fred. Nothing like a new tag line and a good one to boot!

Must admit that I’m not happy about his little jaunt on Wednesday...see, he’s coming to the Phoenix area (Dobson High School in Mesa, AZ). This is too close to home.

My husband just informed me that people are already lining up for tickets. I don’t know at this point if he’s going to talk to the students or his dimwitted followers. Regardless, I swear to God I wish I had a child in that school so I could make a big deal out of keeping him/her home that day.

How much is this little visit going to cost us? How dare he waste our money when any news station would gladly give him air time? This “in your face” crap has got to stop.

This does offer a wonderful opportunity to “freep” the POS. I’ll be out of town then (dang it) but will be following the “story” on my lap top. I always miss the fun.

Here’s hoping his version of FDR’s “fire side chats” fall flat.

What is he still campaigning for?

This tactic, in and of itself - a sitting president going into districts of dissident congressmen and blasting them to their constituents - is nothing new. It was popularized by none other than Franklin D. Roosevelt himself.

If only his agenda was as benign as this particular tactic, he might not have to bother to get some of the GOP support he craves.
