the Beltway Republicans are trying to convince us that they've seen the light and converted to fiscal conservatism.

Anything short of burning Collins, Snowe and Specter in effigy is underwhelming.

"In case you haven’t noticed, the 350 billion bailout kept our banking system from having already failed."

There are those who make this claim. I am not convinced taxpayers should be held liable to "save" banks with bad loans and bad investments. When banks and other businesses fail, why should taxpayers be held liable? As for banks, depositors were already protected by the FDIC. As for other failed businesses (especially small businesses), well, they are still on their own.

"The bad thing is that Marxists will be calling the shots now instead of conservatives that found themselves in a terrible economic spot."

I agree the marxists are now in charge. But I am also convinced had there been true fiscal conservatives serving in congress and the executive branch, maybe, just maybe, we would not have found ourselves in this "terrible economic spot."

Indeed.

Amazing << Hear this. Feel this, and tell me that this isn't music.

Hey Barack HUSSEIN Obama, I went to Harvard too! That was the worst fieldtrip of my life, but I went there...

Paul’s just a messenger.

And the message is from Uranus.

Greed has no political affiliations...

As for the banks and business in general, I agree that they should be allowed to fail. However, the banks would take everyone else down with them. We literally were staring at economic anarchy in a very short order.

We know now that there was a 550 billion dollar run on money markets in a couple of hours. There was no choice in this situation.

Acknowledging reality doesn't mean you have to agree with it.

Yes - I keep telling myself that the presidential win for Obama was just the greater of two evils

McCain was a dupe but he was not evil. The only thing we are spared is seeing him assist the media in making him look like the dupe he is.

On their worst day, a bill like porkulus would never have been considered by Republicans.

Your argument is McCain, as President, would have vetoed a massive stimulus bill? Wake up.

I can't know for sure, but I do know that a bill like Porkulus would never have been sent to his desk by Republicans.

In this case, with this bill presented by the opposition, I believe he would have vetoed it in a second.

Just an observation. You’re worse than a woman. Hysterical. Emotional. Irrational. Who are you trying to impress? Petronski?

And that excuses the earmarks, wasteful spending and prescription drug plan? I was under the impression that increasing the size of government is not a conservative value, but I guess everything is relative. Silly me.

So you’re okay with central planning as long as it’s under conservative leadership, as long as it’s “your guy”? Fascism anyone?

No one in my lifetime (52 years) has ever cut the federal budget. The best they could do is cut taxes and slow the increase.

That includes every Republican President conservative or not.

Blaming GWB because he couldn't either is silly.

Do you think “stimulus” bills actually do anything for the economy, even if they are filled with “job creation”?

In the absence of any other choice, I would much rather it be "my Guys" controlling the spending and the direction.

Did Republicans ever have the filibuster proof majority our law demands, to change entitlement spending?
