The Washington Post added its voice Wednesday to a growing chorus of demands for the resignation of Sen. Roland Burris two days after he detailed conversations with impeached Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's brother that he failed to mention under oath.
Sen. Roland Burris of Illinois is facing pressure to step down in leading newspaper editorials.
Burris, appointed by a scandal-wracked Blagojevich to fill President Obama's vacant Senate seat, told reporters Monday night in Peoria, Illinois, that he had three conversations with the governor's brother, Robert Blagojevich.
In them, the Democratic senator said he discussed possibly raising money for the governor before ultimately declining to do so.
Burris said he had talked to some people about holding a fundraiser but told the governor's brother shortly after Obama's election that no one was willing to donate. In a third conversation, he finally said it would be inappropriate to raise money because he was interested in the Senate appointment.
"This latest revelation makes a mockery of his professions of no quid pro quo," the Post argued on its editorial page. "It is a violation of the public trust. The people of Illinois have suffered enough. Mr. Burris should resign."
The paper also said, "Mr. Burris's story has more twists than the Chicago El, and none of them good."
Illinois' senior senator, Dick Durbin, also voiced concern Wednesday, saying that "public statements made by Mr. Burris to this point have raised questions, which need to be looked at very carefully, as to the nature of his relationship with the former governor and the circumstances surrounding his appointment."

Da Mayor is behind dis. Burris is a goner, one way or another.
As I said before when the talk begin with the Governor, “Let the games begin.”
Heck, a memory like Burris’ landed Libby in jail. Don’t imagine that will happen in this case, but Fitzpatrick was a stickler for “lying” to the Feds. Martha Stewart suffered the same memory deficiencies and she got an all-expenses paid vacation in West Virginia.
Oh, well...
Diogenes would have a VERY tough time in Illinois!!! Why isn't the whole "Chicago Machine" (including a well known Kenyan Usurper) behind bars?
The Age of Obama certainly is a turbulent one, isn't it?
After he decided to keep Robert Gates on at DoD, it has been pretty much down hill since. His first month has been a multi-faceted debacle. Yes, he got The Porkulus Bill passed, but tht will bite in the backside eventually.
So after all of the Cabinet appointment failures, now Obambi's replacement in the Senate may get the heave-ho? Too funny!
Why resign? They’ll just replace him with another corrupt dem. (whoops... sorry for the redundancy)
If the Washington Post wants Burris out of the Senate, then Conservatives must demand he be kept in the Senate.
I wonder if Burris has even realized what a patsy he is. Somewhere Al Capone is laughing.
Obama has no clue as to what he is doing. He is in way over his head. He thought this would be like Chicago politics; although it is dirty, outside of Chicago people pay more attention to what their politicians do and say. BO thought this whole thing was just a game, and now he is finding out what it is really like to be in a position of power with scrutiny.
Out scamp. OUT OUT OUT!
If he is being asked to resign because he lied about meeting with Blagos people....then why isn’t Obama?
I may have been wrong in my commments yesterday about the combination of his party and his race making him all but untouchable.
If the WaPo is calling for him to resign he MAY be in trouble.
Roland, Roland, Roland...keep them doggies Roland...

Ever notice how bright lights make roaches scurry?
If Dick Turban has doubts, I’ll say he’s out by the weekend.
“...he is finding out what it is really like to be in a position of power with scrutiny.”
But what is anybody likely to do to stop him given whatever the scrutiny brings out?
Because......
He can’t resign! He’s got a great career ahead of him in the democrat party!
