TAMARAC, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Broward County judge denied bond to a woman spotted by a Publix shopper pouring an unspecified black liquid into jars of baby food inside the grocery store on the evening of Feb. 12.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the witness viewed 50-year-old Shirley W. Ybarra using a plastic syringe to transfer the unknown dye from a Victoria's Secret body splash container to an Earth's Best banana food jar inside the grocery chain's 4121 West Commercial Blvd. location.

When store employees confronted her, the suspect told them she had been mixing food for her son during the 15-minute event. While being questioned, Ybarra allegedly urinated on herself, prompting her to require a visit to the bathroom in order to clean herself up. Once in the lavatory, Ybarra allegedly placed a pair of rubber gloves in the trash and flushed Pine Glo disinfectant down the toilet.

“this is a very mentally , perhaps psychotic woman who needs help”

She doesn’t need help, she needs to be kept away from the public. From the video’s she’s been getting help and it hasn’t worked.

Actually, she was sent to the hospital for evaluation, but her father said his daughter had struggled with mental illness since high school and acts erratically when she does not take her medication. He said Ybarra has no connection to children, no babies to feed, and he believes these are the actions of a troubled person who now may finally get the help her family has tried to provide.

“She’ll be forced to get medication, and maybe that’s a good part of it,” he said.

She’s a very sick woman

If she had gloves, I wonder how mentally ill she actually was?

Some people are just pure evil.

That too, I don’t understand how anyone could do something like this. Stories like this leave me very confused.

She’s a murderous psychopath and probably took some advice from the “child free” kid-haters.

The judge sent her to a mental hospital.

Seems like the proper treatment. She is obviously mental.

I was going to say that if she wanted to poison her baby she would have done it at home. More likely she wanted to poison other people’s babies who bought the baby food and didn’t notice the contamination.

Then it turns out that she doesn’t have a baby, which makes the alternative more likely.

Not that you can reason with an insane person. But she is clearly dangerous to the public and should not be let loose—or next time maybe she will succeed in poisoning someone.

Thank you. I am glad to know there are other people who think there should be institutions where people can be kept on a permanent basis.

Is there such a thing as a lifetime commitment or did the RATs quash that one for good? She has an obvious insanity defense and what's really insane is that she'll probably be able to sign herself out of the nuthouse after a not so long stay.

That store (Publix, a very nice chain in FL) is only a few miles away from my home.

That's along the lines of what happened with the Tylenol poisonings.
