‘Today’ Triple-Teams Santelli
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 02/20/2009 5:07:52 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

After his top-of-Drudge-worthy remarks [video] yesterday on CNBC, you knew Rick Santelli would be on NBC’s Today this morning. Perhaps equally predictable was that the man who argued against making the 92% of responsible Americans paying their mortgages bail out the 8% who aren’t would be subject to the third degree. Or in this case, a triple team.

Steve Liesman, also of CNBC, was there to take the other side, but he was clearly playing for the home team alongside Matt Lauer and Brian Williams, pinch-hitting for Meredith Vieira. Neither Lauer nor Williams hit Liesman, who favors the huge mortgage bailout, with one hardball. All the tough stuff was reserved for Santelli, who held his ground, although he did say he might have chosen a couple words [presumably about calling people in default "losers"] more carefully.

Clearly, the state run media needed to respond...

GE's circling the wagons.

Note to shareholders: Have you all got a screw loose?!

I just sent an email to GE Investor relations from their website. ‘ir.contacts@corporate.ge.com’ is the email address. Pointing out that it is time for MAtt LAuer to be gone and that I am willing to help that by getting rid of GE stock, not purchasing any GE products, and certainly not tuning in NBC Today Show other than to get sponsor info to send them emails regarding the same.

Not to GE shareholders. You seen your wealth go down even when the markets were up.

I wonder what the comparative numbers are of how many saw Santelli via the Drudge link versus how many saw the "Today" show. My gut tells me Obama lost this round.

I will take all the little victories we can get.

I just hope Santelli can keep his job.

his first report had a teabag in the background.

his second report had no teabag on the trader’s desk.

also CNBC manipulated his mike so you could not hear what the traders were saying in the backgound.

If the net is reining them in, I hope someone in the know spills his/her guts to Drudge.

You just KNEW it was coming...

NO ONE can be allowed to question THE ONE. He will be demonized and destroyed now by the crazies on the left, and many in his own business.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s a victim in the next round of ‘cuts’. This IS NBC we are talking about.

Whatever the reason may be, it certainly isn’t “merit”.

Probably has something to do with connections.

Lauer suggested that this was the kind of sacrifice that the Bush administration had failed to ask of Americans...

OK. Let's play, Mr. Lauer. People who choose not to smoke should be made to make sacrifices for the people who do smoke. Dittos with alcoholics, gamblers, etc.

Ain't fairness a bitch, Matt?

Doubtful...
The TODAY show reaches 5-6 million viewers a day

Did you notice the reference to the “silent majority” in Santelli’s rant?

The responsible *are* the majority, 9 to 1. 5 of that 9 voted for Bambi (and by extension Geithner) and I’ll bet 3 of them regret it.

Until recently, most of us have been fully employed. No time to rock the boat, and in most cases nothing to be gained by rocking the boat.

That is changing at a frightening pace.

It will be interesting to see what happens when that 9 to 1 silent majority goes from silent to a dull roar, even.

And if we start covering our faces with bandanas and screaming and marching, Katy bar the door.

Santelli seemed to be somewhat subdued on CNBC this morning, and he was backing off some of his commentary about ‘losers’.

[Somebody got to him. His Tea Party may be fizzling into just that — tea and crumpets.]
