Two Girl Scouts and their troop leader were robbed as they sold cookies outside a San Antonio store, reports say.
The 9-year-old girls were packing up after hours of selling cookies outside a Walgreens in the city's North Side on Wednesday night when a man approached and stole their money, about $250, WOAI.com reports. No injuries were reported.
"Both little girls are scared," the troop leader, who did not want to be identified, told WOAI.com. "And they've learned, firsthand, there are bad people out there."

Oh, No! Mom Ping?
What used to be considered a joke is now reality in America.
Welcome to liberal America. Enjoy!
If we want to look for a silver lining here we can probably say these two young ladies will probably NOT be brainwashed by the liberal education unions.
The scout master (mother, whatever) should have been carrying a firearm.
Doesn’t Texas allow open carry of firearms? Seems to me if you are handling large amounts of money out in the open in a ‘safe’ city like San Antonio, with no-one to guard the money but you and a couple nine year olds, whose safety is your responsibility, you should be taking simple measures to ensure their safety and guard the money.
The really sad part is that the local council will probably make the troop pay up the money.
Boy Scouts learn how to shoot (they used to anyway) so why not the girls, too?
Sarah Palin as their role model! Grow up to marry well, look hot at 45, and shoot!
Hey! They should have just given the Obama supporter the money. After all he deserves it. Spread the wealth.
There were times when I carried concealed while manning the cookie table in years past.
Let the moms I was working with know about it, too.
get a grip
Girl Scout leaders do not pack heat to shoot robbers while 3rd graders are selling cookies. And $250 cash is not an excessive amount of cash for store customers to be carrying. She should have had a 2d adult with her who could have “maybe” deposited the cash every hour or so, as I did. But $250 is not huge haul. And there is nothing that is fail safe.
sheesh
These girls will sell thousands of boxes of cookies once their story hits the local news
Not necessary if you are in Memphis, Tennesee... apparently the good folks at the newspaper will print out your name and address if you have a CCP...
I would like to be on the jury when they try that little worm!
>> Girl Scout leaders do not pack heat to shoot robbers while 3rd graders are selling cookies.
Yeah, what the hell - let ‘em all get mugged, robbed and raped
Can I please get a RACE or Ethnic origin here? Hmmmmmmmmmm!
Is that really relevent? Can’t they just be judged on the basis that they’re scumbags rather than whether or not they’re white, hispanic or black scumbags?
Texas allows licensed *concealed* carry. Few people do it. Texas has a rough image but actually Texas is a purple state, about 35% kool-aid drinkers overall. In big cities like San Antonio and Houston its even higher.
oh yeah, that’s the alternative
pack heat or the kids get raped and die
get a grip
My Council (I believe GSUSA) specifically prohibits GS from gun activities as a GS activity in SafetyWise, our manual of what is allowed, under what conditions, and what is not allowed. Even paintball.
Liberal encroachment into national organziation. But still a rule. Kids can find another org to teach them about guns.
Or hey- about leaving that up to the family? There’s a novel approach.
As for a leader packing heat? Not my kid’s leader.
Another reason my girls are no longer in GS.
Si
She's required by GS policy to have a second adult with her, period, unless both of the girls were the unnamed leader's own daughters.
You sure? Or do you believe in the “don’t ask, don’t tell” theory? It is a real shame two little girls have to learn a hard lesson like this, but I’m thankful they weren’t injured or raped by the crook who didn’t care enough to send or show them his best.
Someone needs to tell my daughter’s leader—they went to a shooting event over the summer and they even got to shoot :) Of course this is a red state...
These are national GS rules, which your daughter’s leader broke. She must have arranged the trip “off the books,” no reports before or after to Council, and disguised the expenses in the annual financial report if any troop funds were used. I’m not saying that’s a horrible thing to do, but it could have been quite a legal fiasco if something had gone wrong, depending on the individuals/families involved.
As this economy continues to crash, they'll have to have Boy Scouts with BB guns at their cookie tables for protection.
.
I saw no description of the perp except he was a male. Why not a fuller description of the creep?
“Texas allows licensed *concealed* carry.”
I’m surprised TX isn’t an open carry state.
PA allows for both concealed and open carry and yet we are a fairly blue state.
There are many other ways for a girl to learn oudoor and leadership skills and to give service than GS. Glad you found an alternative.
My kid- loves it! This year, my troop (aside from camping etc) “adopted” a local nursing home, solicited a carload of baby supplies for the local “birthright” (pro life) center, is working with a landscape designer to install a “sensory garden” for the County Retarded Service HQ, and is raising money to drill a well through Project H20 for a village in Kenya (fingers crossed we make it by summer- $2500)
They also made a boxload of little toys for a special needs Girl Guide patrol in a school/hospital in South Africa. I got to mail that today!
They are 10.
They gave the cookies we couldn’t sell to Operation Welcome Home for troops coming back from the war.
To each her own!
My troop actually wrote a letter to Sarah Palin- hope we get an answer.
It really all depends on the troop and the troop leader.
We had a wonderful leader (former Science teacher and a great Christian) Fantastic troop and great fun.
In Juniors, not so good. The leader was into what HER child wanted and basically let the troop fall into cliques and no unity at all. Her daughter, daughter’s cousin, other troop leader’s daughter and one other girl ruled all.
In the meantime, GS took $$$$$ for everything. I had to pay 10.00 for the privilege of driving kids around.
Tons of people have good experiences. We didn’t. And I’m not one of those moms who says “The volunteers should do more!” or “I don’t like this” and not volunteer to help. I ran a Daisy troop for them and was in the meetings whenever they needed me.
It just didn’t work for us.
Because the politically correct news media does not want to validate what many already know, that certain ethnicities are more prone to redistributionist tendencies than others.
PA allows for both concealed and open carry and yet we are a fairly blue state.
Despite the Wild West reputation, Texas had complete handgun prohibition from 1872 to 1996. We still have a ban on Bowie knives.
Secondly, Gun Activity is not prohibited from the Girl Scout program. Paintball is because you are shooting at a person. Hunting is prohibited too but I can understand that one. But if a leader wants to take her troop to a firing range and have them learn about Gun Safety, there is nothing wrong with that as long as you get approval from your Local council.
If you are a leader look at page 80 in Safety-Wise.
With the way things are it would be a benefit for the girls to learn about Gun Safety and among other things for their safety. If you can prove to your Council that it can be educational and falls under the new Discover, Connect, Take Action plan, then go for it. I know I am but that is because 75 percent of my troop have parents in Law Enforcement and around firearms.
