Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, head of his party in the Golden State, is taking a pass on the big spring GOP convention in Sacramento this weekend -- where, let's face it, the long knives are out for him -- to meet with President Obama in the nation's capital.
While the Republicans are railing against Schwarzenegger on taxes and considering censuring their own who voted for the state budget, Schwarzenegger sidesteps it all: He's in Washington, D.C., for the National Governor's Association get-together, meeting with Obama and other administration officials on climate change and key economic topics.
The schedule is still tenative, but California's first couple's busy weekend schedule starts Saturday, when First Lady Maria Shriver is slated to deliver a talk on her WE Connect campaign to the National Governors Association at the JW Marriott.
Then Schwarzenegger heads a panel on infrastucture issues. Then comes a climate-change meeting for Schwarzenegger, one of 11 governors who'll meet with administration officials in response to a Jan. 29 letter they sent to the president on the issue.
And on Sunday, about the time sleepy GOPers will be attending their prayer breakfast in Sacto, Schwarzengger will be on "This Week" with George Stephanolopous, followed by "State of the Union" on CNN with John King. He'll get to talk budget all he wants --though I'm sure we'll hear responses from the Republicans in the state capitol.

Like he could give a poop anyway ..
Dear God, please have Arnold become a democrat, and all of the other RINO’s follow him out of the republican party.
I woner if Charlie (I wanna be just like AHHHnolt) Crist was there, too.
Arnold and all the other RINOs should be driven out of the Republican Party. Then a new, truly conservative party can come into being.
I agree, and I amoncerned about a recent quote of RNC chair Steele.
“A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if youre going hunting? Thats overkill. But I dont think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But whats the point of passing gun laws if were not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, thats where you need to start. Weve got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, its about how we enforce the law.”

Maybe he feels that if Obama could do it, then he could do it.
The Republican Party was not always the party of gun rights.
Henry Hyde, the former House Judiciary Chairman, was hostile to gun rights.
BTW, I think he’ll be reelected.
