Bloodbath inches closer to U.S.- Children take cover as gangs fire at police

Across the border from McAllen, Texas, a war has been raging in affluent Mexican neighborhoods, main streets and shopping areas as cartels openly fire rocket-propelled grenade launchers and assault rifles at law enforcement authorities.

No one is safe – not even young children as they walk to school.

"We heard a lot of gunshots," cried one child as he escaped Felipe Carrillo Puerto Primary School holding his father's hand Tuesday morning.

The street wars between police and gangs shut down parts of Reynosa, Mexico, as Mexican media estimated the death toll at 20 with dozens injured... \

A U.S. federal official told the Monitor that Gamboa, known as "El Karis," was killed in his upscale neighborhood on one of the busiest streets in the city.

The gunmen fired a variety of military-grade weapons, including grenades, a 60 mm mortar and assorted small-arms ammunition.

As many as seven federal police officers reportedly were wounded.

While the street war raged, hundreds of Mexicans, some with small children, blocked roads and international bridges for hours in Reynosa, Ciudad Juarez and Nuevo Laredo. They were protesting Mexican President Felipe Calderon's army-backed drug war.

Authorities claim there is no correlation between the demonstrations and the gang violence. However, according to the Dallas Morning News, the drug cartels have been paying unarmed citizens to protest military presence.

According to the report, bullet casings sprinkled the grounds of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Primary School while children took cover under their desks..

U.S. officials prepared for a violence spillover by deploying heavily armed authorities to international crossings that reopened by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The GOP then elected the demented McCain who adored illegal aliens, called them “God's Children,” and voted - along with Obama and Hillary - against the Cronyn amendment. No, these politicians did not want our country to bar entry to gang members, terrorists, etc.

go over to DU....You are sooooo helpful...
flame away with your non productive analysis....Of course YOU knew all the details behind the scene of the Mexican /US relationship, didn’t you?

and of course, YOU could have done something instantly to solve the problems and the congress would just bow down to you instantly.

Actually Bush could have closed down the open borders after 9-11 and NO ONE would have said anything about it.

But he didn't want to cut down on cheap labor for his buds so he left them open - even encouraged more illegals with his talk of Amnesty.

And I suspect I know a lot more about the US and Mexican relations .....

so glad you are an expert...Too bad you weren’t available to help bush after 9-11...with YOU it would be all different now.

You’re “he wanted cheap labor for his buds...” sounds just like “ he’s an oil man, wants the oil for his buds.”

As brilliant as your quick-witted and oh-so-insightful original attack on me.

Let me ask you this. Is this the first time you’ve read strong criticism of George W Bush in FR?

That is so true. So obviously true. It goes without saying. But evidently, around here, it still requires repeating. What a sad state we are in.

Once the drug cartels finish establishing themselves as a defacto government in these regions, they will move into the closest US cities to do the same.

I wonder how well Obama can use his community organizer skills to placate these thugs and murderers?

I for one are extremely glad he has experience to deal with these people, must be just like being back home in Chicago. (sort of tongue in cheek)

I suspect I'm a bit older than you and have been in places - positions and simply payed attention....

And I did hear "Sorry sir, too long of break in service" - following 9-11.

But do try to get a copy of " Compromised, Bush - Clinton and the CIA". It will enlighten you.

And do feel free to ask questions if there are parts that you don't understand.

You should have quite the drugs before you could no longer recover. Bush has been a major problem with the state of Mexico today. You need to read more or has the drugs stopped your ability to read.
