Egyptian police said Sunday evening a bomb detonated outside a historic Cairo mosque in the crowded bazaar area frequented by tourists, wounding at least eight people.
Blood stains could be seen in the front courtyard of Hussein mosque, next to the famed Khan el-Khalili bazaar in Islamic Cairo.
Riot police had cordoned off the area and sniffer dogs could be seen as worshippers were being evacuated. A security official said police were attempting to defuse a second bomb.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
Damn, I plan to be in Cairo in Nov. Hope the craziness is not spreading too much there.
God Speed.
Heh, thanks. I lived there for about a year about ten years ago. I felt entirely safe then but I suppose you always do until something happens.
I gotta go to Istanbul in May (son marrying Turkish girl) and not looking forward to it, neither.
One good note, airfares dropped by HALF! (What do they know that we don’t?)
Istanbul is a gorgeous city and very European. Nothing like Cairo. Congrats on the international marriage!
The HUSSEIN Mosque, as in BO?
I envy you. I’ve always wanted to go to Egypt, and I’m still hoping to get there one day before I die. Hope you have a safe, and enjoyable trip.
