Hey, I have 4 kids and I need to provide and protect them, as much as I can, from harm and hardship. There is too much conflicting information for one man to sort out. I have read that I should: 1. Watch news on the US. Treasury Auctions, as if less buyers or China doesn’t buy then I am justified in resorting to panic? 2. Panic when intrade World Crisis Index hits 75? www.intrade.com/widgets/crisis/WorldCrisisIndex.html 3. Panic when US service on debt gets close to or exceeds US revenue receipts? 4. Just before Obama nationalizes(which is imminent) the banks? Isn’t that the trigger point where the Krona currency in Iceland dropped by half its value? 5. We are Freepers, so why did we fail at not recognizing what was happening on 9/15/08 until long after the occurrence? Isn’t there some way we could have known about it so we could decide whether to panic or not? The western lifestyle is protected by two metals primarily. Gold is one. Lead is the other..........................
The stock market is ON SALE right now....You cant buy low and sell high without buying low! Buy on a consistent monthly basis and over time your money will grow. Good growth stock mutual funds have grown an average of 12% over the past FIFTY YEARS!! We dont know what the future holds, but we should rely a little bit on past performances of the market. Ups and downs happen. I’m down 55% over the past 18 months....Oh well....It WILL go back up again....

Focus on your personal finance, reduce debt to as close to zero as possible, increase savings, diversify your holdings as much as possible to include a mix of commodities (gold, silver, platinum) bonds, cash, etc. Fear cycles can actually cause you more problems. You can’t control the national debt. You can’t control world index funds. You can’t control commodity prices. If you live day to day based on the fear of those, you will make unwise decisions and effect your own health. If you have a decent amount of capital, get with a financial adviser, then get a second opinion. Control what you can, don’t let what you can’t control effect your life.

I have 2 kids and if things got very bad, I plan to take them to my hometown where I have family, it is a small town and it is rural. Do you have any “safe” place to go if you needed to? We have GPS and maps to use back roads if we needed to.
I have a full pantry and I have water purification and firemaking and solar cooking know-how (from Girl and Boy Scouts)- also lightweight survival blankets. The kids have good walking shoes, we’re going to the dentist next week to make sure they are in good shape. I am keeping the gas tank full and hope to know when to start keeping cash at home, Just prepare as if a big storm was coming.
Sorry if this sound silly and alarmist. Just my rudimentary thoughts.

This other stuff? Plunging stocks, layoffs, lions, and bears, oh my...? Just noise. None of it is going to change your end destination - just your focus...

Let’s talk in 24 months. You have a whole lot more confidence than I right now. My only glaring example is the Japanese market which has still not recovered from the lost decade.
I’m to the point of cutting off the monthly investment that is supposed to accomplish dollar cost averaging. Not being able to see four or five years into the future with the same boobs in congress and the presidency, I’m not bullish.

Your next new car should be a diesel (VW alledgedly has a really good one) and then you can store a few hundred gallons on your property.
Diesel does not explode like gasoline and diesel stores really well while gasoline goes bad after a year or so.
Dems control Congress...BO is PResident...BO will probably appoint 4 Supreme Court justices...panic is appropriate.
