Nazi Death Camp Guard Will be Tried: Prosecutor
Reuters ^ | 2/25/09 | Erik Kirschbaum

A German prosecutor rejected criticism on Wednesday that suspected Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk is not being brought to trial fast enough before the 88-year-old dies.

Munich state prosecutor Anton Winkler said his office has been examining evidence against Demjanjuk since December 30 and hopes to have him extradited from the United States for a trial in Germany as soon as possible -- possibly in the next month.

"We're working as fast as possible and assume Demjanjuk will be brought to trail here," Winkler told Reuters. "As soon as we have finished preparing the charges, the extradition process will move forward."

In November, Germany's chief Nazi war crimes investigator in Ludwigsburg, Kurt Schrimm, asked prosecutors in Munich, where Demjanjuk once lived before he emigrated to the United States, to charge him with involvement in the murder of 29,000 Jews.

Schrimm said his office had evidence that Demjanjuk had been a guard at the Sobibor death camp in Poland and personally led Jews to the gas chambers there in 1943. Last week Schrimm criticized the Munich prosecutors for not moving faster.

"The accusation is unfair," Winkler said, adding that a final report should be ready in about three weeks.

Winkler said charges could be raised at that point and a request for his extradition made to the Berlin government.

Efraim Zuroff, a Nazi hunter at the Simon Wiesenthal Center and director of its Jerusalem office, said time was running out to prosecute Demjanjuk, second on its list of top war criminals.

"The evidence has all been checked time and again," Zuroff said in a telephone interview from Jerusalem.

"It's strange to claim a month's delay is needed. The biggest problem prosecuting war crimes all over the world now is a lack of political will."

How many shots do these incompetent prosecutors need at this guy? Leave him alone and let him die. If he is truly guilty(and ALL of the previous evidence and trials say a resounding NO) his ultimate judgment is not far away.

And yes, most of my family spend WWII in concentration camps and I had two uncles executed and buried in parts unknown.

"Leave him alone and let him die."

No.

And for the record, my grandparents, on both sides, lost their parents and all their siblings in the death camps.

This animal should be tried and sentenced. Let him spend his last days in an 8 x 10 cell, alone. For what he did, he does not deserve any sympathy.

To quote my grandfather who would say this in Yiddish, "may he be like a lantern - hang all day and burn by night."

Try him for ....what? Is being a camp guard enough to go to court? Or did he do extracurricular activities beyond the call of duty(beatings, cruelity, killing, etc.) that deserve punishment more appropiate punishment?

Cuz there are plenty of anti American zealots that believe American soldiers should be put on trial for crimes against humanity just because they are Americans and a soldier in Iraq/Afghanistan/ Gitmo.

Well show me his guilt then. I have been watching this play out on the local news in Cleveland since I was a kid. Even the Israeli Supreme Court had to overturn his conviction given he was misidentified based on testimonial of a witness. Then there was his lawyer that *chough* threw himself out a window during the trial. Now after all this time, when the trail is getting pretty damn cold and one would think that all of this would have come up during the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s (considering the widespread publicity) when it would have been more fresh in peoples memories who could have been actual witnesses yet we didn’t. Well not until late in this decade anyway and a few rumors.

By the way, why don’t I hear this kind of emotional charge against the other leftists of the world that turned their backs or contributed to the 150-200 million or so victims of communism? A number of those scum bags still walking around as if nothing happened or they are royalty and there is virtually no outrage. Hell we have a number of liberals in this country that would do what was done if ever given a real chance. We are willing to pursue some form of justice against one side of the coin, but totally willing to leave the other side alone. What a travesty and miscarriage of justice this has been.

Master Sergeant John C. Woods, of San Antonio, Texas, readies the noose for the hanging of convicted Nazi criminals. Woods, the official executioner for the US Army, said, "I hanged those 10 Nazis and I am proud of it!"

Goering was sentenced to death at Nuremberg for crimes against the peace, war crimes, as well as crimes against humanity. He committed suicide two hours before he was scheduled to be hanged.

Amin Al Husseini meets with Adolf Hitler in November 1942, weeks before the decision to implement the Final Solution which sent Europe's Jews to the gas chamber. The Third Reich provided Amin Al Husseini with a salary and appointed him Head of the Hanzar SS Division. The Hanzar Division was made of Nazi Muslims and implemented the genocide of 250,000 Serbs, Gypsies and Jews during WWII.

The hunting of alleged Nazi collaborators has been a perfect cover up for the crimes of Communists, ongoing as we speak, many of the perpetrators living in luxury in the West, and yes, in Israel too. None have been pursued, none have been tried, many, retired now, receiving retirement benefits in Russia, Poland and other countries raped by the friends of the West’s leftists who chase these small fish like Demjanjuk to their graves. Shame!

Further proving my point. Even then we didn’t go after all the Nazi’s. Some found their way into the West German gov. Many found their way into the Stazi in East Germany after the Soviets gained access to Nazi records which where also used to blackmail those in West Germany to spy. Some like you have shown above that is Islamic Fascism. But let us not forget that communists have also had a hand in helping Hitler out and Germany during the 20’s not to mention the characters that are muslim as you are showing, in particular Yasser Arafat. Based on one defector from Romania, Arafat was controlled by the KGB. He made routine trips to Soviet Union even during the 90’s. The commies supported the rise of these thugs in the Middle East including the “Liberals” here at home and even more so than ever before. They are just different sides of the same coin. All thugs, just one trying to use the other for cover. History is about to repeat once again. But instead of millions, we may have to be talking about billions this time around.

As far as I can tell, most if not all the evidence against this fellow is tainted by Soviet handling. The Soviets went after anyone who escaped their grasp with a vengeance.

I guess you have a real problem with reading and comprehension.

I said "tried & sentenced". If he's tried and found guilty, he isn't innocent, is he Mr. Buchanan? Schmuck

Excuse me. I would hardly equate a guard in Nazi Death Camp with one of our soldiers.

Besides, he was evidently known as "Ivan the Terrible", if it was in fact him.

He was ruled in a US Court to have lied on his immigration application here in the US and "that he had served as an SS guard at Treblinka and for a brief period at Sobibór, and that he had undergone training at the Trawniki SS training camp. Demjanjuk's attorneys appealed this ruling."

You said NOTHING about being found guilty. At least Uncle Joe would have paused for a predetermined verdict between trial and execution of sentence.

Show you his guilt? I don't have to show YOU his guilt. It is up to the prosecutor to prove his case IF he chooses to take the case to trial based on the evidence. Hence my comment.

If he is found guilty, based on a preponderance of the evidence, I see no reason to show mercy to a Nazi Jew killer just because he happens to be 89 years old.

Oh FGS. Grow up. If he is sentenced, it would BECAUSE he was found guilty. You aren't sentenced if you are found innocent or Not Guilty, now are you? Where the blazes did you go to school?

Sounds to me like you already convicted him in your first post regardless of what you are saying now and in spite of past evidence. Hence my comments stand as they are. Show me the proof. The man was shafted once by people who made this personal along with sketchy evidence and that is being very generous as fraudulent is more like it. It is clear that this is personal for you and not about justice. If he is guilty, fine. Throw him to the dogs; age doesn't matter to me, guilt does but you should have been able to figure that out regarding my comments about the crimes of the other leftist and their sympathizers. But I want proof first; not your uninformed ranting or anyone else’s for that matter. Justice can only be served by the facts. We have plenty of proof against all the other lefties, but I see no desire to bring them to justice despite how glaring the damage was done.

Are you asking where I went to law school before I became a prosecutor? I think I mentioned it in an earlier post. Why don't you look it up. There are only 21,761 to go through, and it might keep you from embarrassing yourself for a while.

You, on the other hand, appear to have not had the benefit of higher education, since your best weapon is an ability to call other folks names. Have you considered DU? Others of your ilk seem to enjoy it.

Well the Soviets seemed to have a real ‘warm’ spot in their hearts for Ukrainians. Government induced famine from 1932 to 1933 and 8 to 11 million dead. Hatred runs deep and it is not easily forgotten or tempered. Not to mention stoking the flames to get eyes to look elsewhere to avoid unwanted attention to their own mass murders works rather well unfortunately.
