Using words such as "imposter" and "usurper," an active-duty Army officer in Iraq has joined a California lawyer's lawsuit intended to force President Barack Obama to prove he is a legal U.S. citizen, and therefore able to legally serve as the commander in chief.

"Until Mr. Obama releases a 'vault copy' of his original birth certificate for public review, I will consider him neither my Commander in Chief nor my President, but rather, a usurper to the Office -- an impostor," 1st Lt. Scott R. Easterling states in his letter published at Defendourfreedoms.com.

An Army spokesman told Military.com today that officials are aware of Easterling's letter.

Poll: Should a Soldier serve if he doesn’t think the president is legitimate?

"We are taking a look at that ourselves right now," Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said. "We are always trying to balance our ... military requirements under the Uniform Code of Military Justice versus critical freedoms that all Americans enjoy."

California dentist turned attorney Orly Taitz, who has brought the lawsuit, told Military.com Tuesday that it is her "understanding that there will not be a serious consequence to his career [for his statements], but I don't know for sure."

"I told him 'you're doing something very brave for this country, and that you can call me any time, 24/7 [for advice],' " she said. "If you're investigated by [the judge advocate general] and if there are any hearings ... and if an officer is defending you, I will provide documents totally proving it's illegitimate for [Obama] to be president."

The fact that this is on military.com speaks volumes to the importance of this officer's story.

It's only a matter of time before the Army Times picks it up, and when it gets the story, then it will probably make Talk Radio and most likely FNC.

To any officers out there who doubt the authenticity of Barack Hussein Obama, I salute you!

Hang in there, and keep fighting the good fight!!!

God bless this brave man. He’s gonna need a legal defense fund, and someone else to start his car every morning.

It looks like he’s still in his five year probationary period. He’ll be gone is six months. They will convene a board and toss him for Conduct Unbecoming. And that’s only if they decide to not make an example of him.

You've got that right! This isn't South America, yet, and this Lieutenant isn't Klaus Von Stauffenberg. I would never want our military to sully their hands with politics.

I think he is finished for standing up and doing the right thing.

Kind of IRONIC given the fact that the Army is supposed to punish people for doing the wrong thing.

IMNSHO career already shot.
He is in danger of going to Leavenworth....
He is still under ‘contract’ and the Military I ‘knew’ would take care of him and worry about the appeals later.
He also has had someone In ‘Country’ take up his cause. You know the Army will move swiftly to put a stop to this...
For the good of the order etal.....

Obama is not waging policies and just illegalities and regular policy sneakiness and dethroning. This guy goes much further than just lying. He is holding things hostage of very strategical importance.

It’s not policy, it is not economy, it is war, civil war that he wages and he is pre-burning the villages and spliting everything appart.

He obviously does not care about consequences of anything.

I would never want our military to sully their hands with politics.

Our military has needlessly laid down their lives do to the politics and mistakes of politicians.

In modern times never has a CIC gone to such lengths to withhold (HIDE) information about themselves.

$12.50 to remove the doubts in many Americans minds? An infinitesimal price compared to the price paid by the members of The United States Military over these many years.

If the members of the military who are ready to lay down their lives for this country do not have standing can you tell me who has that right and duty?
