N.C. Marine charged with threatening Obama

A Camp Lejeune Marine has been charged with threatening Barack Obama before the president was sworn into office last month.

Obama is scheduled to deliver a speech from the base in Jacksonville today.

Kody Ray Brittingham, 20, faces up to five years in prison and three years of supervised release if convicted of threatening the president-elect, according to U.S. Attorney George E.B. Holding.

Brittingham also could be fined up to $250,000.

According to a news release, Brittingham told people in November that he intended to shoot Obama, among other things.

“We take all threats against the president and other high officials of the United States very seriously,” Holding said. “The threat itself represents a disruption of the United States government, even if no actual attempt is made to carry out the threat.”

In today’s speech, Obama is expected to unveil his plans to withdraw combat troops from Iraq. He is scheduled to arrive on Air Force One at the Cherry Point Marine Corps Air station in the morning, according to a White House news release.

Obama will speak from the Goettge Memorial Field House about 11:45 a.m., the release said.

Hopefully not even in is heart. I’m certainly no Obama fan, but I wish him a long life. I certainly don’t want to see two little girls at their father’s memorial service. That’s always heartbreaking, no matter who the father is.

Bull crap. I've threatened to kill people before. So have you. It is our right to express our disgust for people by saying that we'd like to kill them or like to see them die.

No, I haven't. You should seek professional help if you do.

I thought Marines didn’t make threats. Marines made actions.

It’s never been legal to threaten to kill anyone.

Really? Next time your wife threatens to kill you, call the police.

Then I will support the charges with the opportunity given to the Marine of full disclosure. :)

I think I meant discovery in post 85. I want the Marine to be permitted discovery.

Making threats against the President is STUPID, but there is a much bigger issue at work here.

We are beginning to see anecdotal evidence every day now of the MILITARY turning on Obama.

It is illegal to threaten to kill the president. And I am willing to bet that anyone who publicly threatened to kill the president was unable to carry it out because they were arrested. And most threats/attempts/assassinations against US presidents haven’t been carried out by assassins, they’ve been carried out by crazy people.

My wife has never threatened to harm me. What kind of screwed up life have you lead that you think these things are common?

Good. Because threatening an enemy combatant is not against the law.

Matter of fact, since he is a Marine, action is encouraged.

Who gets to determine who an enemy of the Constitution is? Can you imagine each person deciding on their own who the enemy is? A legal conclusion to this has not been determined- until then, Obama is holding the office of President of the United States. He has not been legally determined to be ineligible. One can’t just go around taking actions based on an opinion, especially in the military. If that is your opinion, apply for conscious objector status the next time you are given an order by the CIC- don’t react with illegal behavior just because your opinion is the CIC isn’t eligible.

Facts and objectivity, not heresay and speculation, in determining one guilt and innocence. Free speech is the first thing that will be removed by the libs.
