GWB had no argument against deficit pork entitlement handouts once he sold two wars, Iraq reconstruction, broad based tax cuts and rebates , and Homeland security at same time. How could he say ‘no’ to debt when the message was war=government was free? With all the Hannity rhetoric about democrats funding the troops, GWB never funded the troops himself, he just passed the costs along to others with debt and printed money . Funding the troops patriotically would have been him calling for tax increases and spending cuts to pay for the wars, Of course he would have lost in 2004 if he did that, but after that R party would have revived 2006 and 2008. Hannity bots song goes "You're a great American and Iraq was critical for our safety but dont ask ME to pay higher taxes for it"

The war in Iraq was going to be paid for by pumping Iraqi oil either directly or by lowering the price of oil though increased world wide production. Didn’t turn out that way
