US ready to aid Mexico drug fight
BBC ^ | March 2, 2009 | Emilio San Pedro

Posted on 03/02/2009 2:28:30 PM PST by AuntB

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said the US wants to increase the military assistance it provides Mexico for its fight against drugs trafficking.

Mr Gates said Washington was more prepared now to help Mexico in its fight against the cartels which control the flow of illegal narcotics.

Mr Gates said aid could come in the form of military hardware, training and intelligence support to help the Mexican authorities in their fight against the well-armed and organised drugs traffickers.

"It clearly is a serious problem," Gates said.

But he pointed to Mexican President Felipe Calderon as the main reason for this renewed interest on Washington's part.

He said: "What I think people need to point out is the courage that Calderon has shown in taking this on, because one of the reasons it's gotten as bad as it has is because his predecessors basically refused to do that."

However, the comments may also be aimed at defusing a diplomatic row which ensued between the two countries just days ago, after the publication of a US Pentagon report which said the drugs-related violence could turn Mexico into a failed state.

That prompted a terse response from Mr Calderon, who rejected the report's findings and said the authorities in Mexico were very much in control of the country.

Beyond the political rhetoric, the drugs-related violence has left a path of death and destruction in its wake.

More than 6,000 people were killed in the violence last year.

"Mr Gates said aid could come in the form of military hardware, training and intelligence support to help the Mexican authorities in their fight against the well-armed and organised drugs traffickers."

Now, the curious thing about this is, the last time we 'trained' Mexico's military, they became the 'Zetas'...the same people who are now running the Drug Cartel crime rings, kidnappings, pot fields here and the beheadings and murders in Mexico.

CBS, 60 Minutes did a segment on Mexico last night. Of course they had to hint the big problem was USA guns going to Mexico. We can't let the media turn the danger that is Mexico into a ploy against the 2nd amendment.

Another article sent by NAFBO reads:

US Senate panel to examine violence on Mexico border
http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSN26266392

The chair of this panel is Lieberman. They will assess border security programs and plans in place and review the readiness of federal, state, and local law enforcement. They will also be considering whether there is merit to deploying National Guard to the border, fencing issues and potential mass migration from Mexico.

If anyone cares to comment to them:

...and the drug cartels which pay them.

“Of course they had to hint the big problem was USA guns going to Mexico.”

I didn’t take it as a hint, but a downright accusation. Of course, the fact these guns are being smuggled by illegal aliens escaped their notice.

Calderon has been trying, but I think it might be too late. Fox did nothing; he was a complete loser. That said, if I were Mexico, I’d be reluctant to let Bambi get a toehold in the country, even in the form of military aid. I doubt that the latter would ever get delivered anyway, and entering into any sort of relationship with Obama could make Mexico even worse than it is.

Hint to all the druggie gangs in Mexico:

1) Declare yourself democrats
2) Get onto the Obamaloon cabinet

that way,

1) the MSM will not notice your past crimes
2) All will be forgiven.

PS, Make sure not to pay your taxes, else the head loon will never hire you.

Great, let’s also give them main battle tanks and maybe a few jets so they can use them against us.

We’ll probably supply them with equipment designed to take out the lousy few feet of fencing DHS actually built.

The Mexican army recently discovered a plot to attack the Mexican vice president with grenades or a car bomb - I don’t recall the details - indicating that the gangs (who have ties to the radical leftists in Mexico) are pretty bold. I wouldn’t put it past them to make an attempt to get Calderon.

Maybe some of the new jobs Phew is promising will come from building welcome centers along the border. They will also need extra staff so the can offer instant sign up for benefits and an environmentally friendly bus line to move them across fragile areas.
