Barack Obama has released anti-terror memos from the Bush govnernment made after September 11

THE US military could have kicked in doors to raid a suspected terrorist cell in the United States without a warrant under a Bush-era legal memo the Justice Department made public.

The memo, from October23, 2001, also said constitutional free-speech protections and a prohibition on unreasonable search and seizure could take a back seat to military needs in fighting terrorism inside the country.

It was one of nine previously undisclosed memos and legal opinions which shed light on former U.S. President George W. Bush's legal guidance as he launched a war against terrorism after the September 11 attacks.

"The government's compelling interests in wartime justify restrictions on the scope of individual liberty," it said.

Other memos held that the president had broad power to detain U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism and to suspend treaty obligations on issues as seen fit.

The memos depict an administration apparently determined to assert sweeping powers for the president after the shock of September 11, and add fuel to critics' charges that fundamental constitutional protections were threatened in the process.

"The current campaign against terrorism may require even broader exercises of federal power domestically," Justice Department officials John Yoo and Robert Delahunty wrote White House counsel Alberto Gonzales in the October 23 memo.

"We do not think that a military commander carrying out a raid on a terrorist cell would be required to demonstrate probable cause or to obtain a (search) warrant," they said.

The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the Constitution's Fourth Amendment ordinarily requires a probable cause and a warrant to execute a search. However, the memo said those requirements "are unsuited to the demands of wartime."

And the mainstream media is worried about the stock market. The stock market and our economy will be moot after what's going to happen to us after Obama’s done eviscerating our national intelligence infrastructure and defense department.

This type of stunt will be pulled over and over as long as Obama is in office to remind everyonw how “evil” Bush was.

“And the mainstream media is worried about the stock market. The stock market and our economy will be moot after what’s going to happen to us after Obama’s done eviscerating our national intelligence infrastructure and defense department.”

This should be sung from the mountain tops.

BTW: just found out one of my ancestors was Governor of Indiana: Alvin Hovey, a pretty neat guy from what I’ve read.

Interesting.

The President got the legal opinion he could knock down doors w/out warrants if he wanted to.

And yet.... he didn’t.

Fascinating gent: Alvin Peterson Hovey (September 6, 1821 –November 23, 1891) was a Union general during the American Civil War and a governor of Indiana. Also a former Ambassador to Peru.

Likely a true patriot that weeps from Heaven in watching America implode.

Indiana still home for you? (I understand if you do not wish to disclose, as you never know who’s keeping a watchful eye on us.)

This is just more BS by Holder and OBOZO to make the previous administration look bad. I just can’t wait to see what OBOZO does when his policies allow another attack on US soil to occur!!

I’ll spare you the suspense.

Of course, that will be Bush’s fault.

The Hovey’s originated in Massechusettes and branched out from there. I’ve been working on the Hovey family tree all winter.

I’m a native New Yorker and am still here, unfortunately. I love Da Bronx, but it has drastically changed.

Wish I had time to work on genealogy and my family tree. (Much has been done, but I'd really like to drill a little deeper into all the individuals.)

It's great you're loyal to your native home. I've hopscotched across the country the past six years - and my NFL team allegiances have too!

I thought there was a number of years before things could be released. Am I wrong?

Honest to goodness, what in the hell is the release of these memoranda going to accomplish other than to embolden our enemies?

It will keep the insane President Bush haters happy while they scream for he and VP Chaney to be tried for their crimes. Nothing will come of their madness and Obama, Pelosi and Reid will keep on defying the Constitution while their maniac supporters are distracted by wishful thinking. Obama and his minions know how to pacify their supporters while they rob them of their money and their freedoms. Then the the idiots will thank him and max out their credit cards in support so he can keep on doing it to them.

We don’t yet know who hired Craig Livingstone, what papers did Sandy Burglar steal or what was in the DiBella memo.

“This type of stunt will be pulled over and over as long as Obama is in office to remind everyonw how “evil” Bush was.”

And the sad part is that most reading it will not even recognize that Bush didn’t write the opinions, his AG sought the opinions, and Bush did not act on them.

Truly tragic when offering opinion equals being a fascist.
