I don’t know how much of a difference Modi would make even if he were PM-the nature of coalition politics (as is evident in recent days) just won’t do it. And Modi was in control of Gujarat, which is unique among Indian states-no-nonsense, pro-business population. Anyway that’s something else.

What I expect is a retaliatory strike-either during the upcoming IPL competition or any big foreign tour of India. I would be seriously surprised if it doesn’t happen.

I travel throughout India, and though I meet mainly business people - from big industrialists to self-employed taxi-drivers and small shop-keepers, everyone seems to want someone to provide strong leadership, whether Modi or someone else. With the image of personal incorruptibility that Modi has, he is the most preferred. And his anti-jihad pronouncements are making more and more people listen.

You're right about the IPL or big foreign tour attacks.:( They can't bear India getting any positive attention.
